When I saw the thumbnail, I was thinking "Hey, this looks like Henry Yan and Ryan Woodward" - then I read that you actually did study under Henry.
How, when and where was the workshop? I'd love to have him as a teacher for a while.

He held a 5 day workshop in North Carolina. I had to drive 4 hours to reach it, but it was totally worth it. Β I've had his book for several years, and have learned a lot from it. Β I wish I could study with him for much longer, but am thankful for the 5 days. Β He posts his workshop schedule on his website here: henryyanart.wordpress.com/ Β

Nice, thanks for that. What a shame he's only got one stop in Europe on the list, but I'll definitely keep an eye on his page to see if anything comes up. But then again we got Kim Jung Gi coming over soon, so that's at least some consolation.

Amazing. How you capture light in an image is most impressive.

Amazing. I'm jealous. What kind of charcoal if I can ask? Compressed?

I wish I could attend his workshop. I remember keeping his book open for reference for a long time to try to ingest some of his techniques. But I imagine actually having the workshop must be wonderful.

Yea his book is amazing. Β It covers everything he mentioned in the workshop and much more. Β Though of course it was nice to see it demonstrated.

Lovely! The detail and shading are exquisite. There is so much emotion displayed in both the model and the piece. Also, the bird's eye view is pretty accurate and difficult to achieve.

I long for a day when I can see lines like this. Β When drawing is simply the capture and not some agonizing chase.
Lovely life drawing - it's good to see some charcoal as well.

Figure drawing has always been the most stressful for me, but I love the challenge of it. Β I feel I'm just now starting to reach a level where I'm not embarrassed to show some the drawings. (Most are still full of errors)
Check out Henry Yan's book if you want some great instruction:Β amzn.com/1427610231

I feel you on the error margin of life drawing. About 5% of my life drawings are only kind of accurate. Β
But hey, what you put up looks effortless, which is the name of the game.
Thanks! Β I'll add that book to my list -- I'm always on the look out for good examples to draw from.

This is really nice.
You did it all with only charcoal ? (pencil and stick I guess)
