Story:
Charlotte held loosely onto the lead rope that hung from the red mare's bit. Ellie stood, squared and silent, watching the scene around them with intent blue eyes. She seemed to know when she was 'on the job', because as soon as a bridle went on, she was all business, stonily excepting pats and refused treats. Charlotte had often wondered if it were due to nerves, but the mare's calm exterior conveyed just the opposite. She watched behind tinted glasses as the bay before them entered the ring. Exciting music began and the horse proceeded to 'dance'. She glanced up at the mare's face, held high in the air by her long neck. Ellie's eyes did not waver from the horse inside the ring, and her breathing seemed to slow. If Charlotte didn't know any better, she'd think that the mare was planning her choreography. Before she knew it, the bay mare was being led out of the arena, and it was Ellie's turn to shine. The mare's stride was long and purposeful as she entered the ring, every step causing a golden shine to move across her muscled flanks. Charlotte brought her to the center of the ring, where Ellie parked out immediately. Inwardly, Charlotte beamed with pride at the mare's ready responsiveness. She gave the chestnut a light pat on the neck as she unhooked the lead rope. The tall mare Raised her head and sprung into a floating trot, ears forward and eyes bright.
