Description
even though we recited it every sunday for four years, i never memorised the young womens' oath by heartedit; no i am not mormon, or at least not anymore, i was born into a mormon family but about a year ago we left the church. i have nothing against the church or its practises, and this doesn't neccsarily symoblise anything, whether it be good or bad <_>

Back in the 60's missionaries tried to convert me. I had doubts even then, not being fundamentalist, but when I found that the church forbade the use of contraception - I backed out, and was a foe of the church ever since.
When some Mormon friends visited us and we reciprocated in visiting them, back in the 80's, I kept my anti-Mormonism a close secret. I am now an atheist* but keep THAT as a secret from friends - no sense losing THEM.
Now that the church caused a mass exodus by its new doctrinal hatred of gays/transgenders/lesbians, I wonder where these people will go - a separate new Mormon church/ mainstream churches/ Unitarians or atheists ?
* Since May '14, I have been atheist, but continue to believe in the soul and an afterlife. No hell. I don't see sense in throwing out the baby with the bath water. Eternal UNconsciousness - my mind just slides right off it ! Just like a God with eternal UNbegun existence - unimaginable.

I like that animal you drew. :0 I'm not sure if it's a sheep, a lion, or something else, but it's creative.

I'm from a Mormon family as well--I don't know if I count myself Mormon or not at the moment, but this picture speaks to me.
I knew the oath but never meant it when I said it, since I was actually an atheist in disguise.
Things have changed, but I've never stopped feeling like an outsider.
--ff haha, anyhow, lovely piece. I am digging how this looks.

I don't think I can remember anything from when I used to go to church. I never really believed anything they said, even when I was only 5 or 6. I wasn't cynical, it just didn't make sense to me, so I think most people were irritated when I'd just sleep or draw.

"I'm going to leave voodoo rabbit another comment telling her how kickass she is at art."
So, you're pretty kick ass at art, I hope you know.

It's a Catholic thing, but some protestant faiths use it too, originally it was used to affirm what were pretty variable opinions of what Catholics believed in 325 AD. It states the basics of the faith (clarifying some points you might be unclear on if your church was small and dispersed in the days before easy mass communication) and is pretty dang long.
Catholic history is actually pretty interesting just historically because they were still trying to figure the administrative part of everything out. If you feel like wiki'ing stuff, the Council of Nicea wrote the thing.

whoa whoa you're mormon? had no idea and i've never met anyone who is mormon, personally. this is really beautiful, though, and i enjoy when you past on paper into your traditional art. you know how to work it without it looking random, even if it might be.

ah i see. sometimes i just want to be an artist and not make it mean anything neccesarily, you know? everyone's trying to make something have a message, i like that except i'm more of a formalist.

I fuckin love all the meaningful spaces you put in your art. You have nooooo idea, your negative spaces are just so good! All the light vs dark -
And the way the round lines juxtapose the straight ones.
This is pretty great.

I still know a couple of the prayers they make you learn when you're catholic, praying the rosary and such things. Never meant much to me though. :/

i never went to seminary, read the scriptures, came to activities, or followed all the guidelines like "the word of wisdom" and such; for the longest time i felt like a horrible person if i didn't but then i realised it doesn't......make you a bad person lol. and not to criticise anyone but it just wasn't my thing.
