Description
" She cast one more lingering, half-fainting glance at the prince, and then threw herself from the ship into the sea, and thought her body was dissolving into foam. The sun rose above the waves, and his warm rays fell on the cold foam of the little mermaid, who did not feel as if she were dying.-The Little Mermaid
Hans Christian Andersen

I love this. I really should read that story. I only know the Disney one(that has a happier ending), and the one that was an Anime with a mermaid named Marina and a dolphin named Fritz. I love Ariel, and love that movie, but I also really love the bittersweet ending of the real story. Even though she gave up sooo much for him, and he married another. She still loved him and let his happiness be her's.

Beautiful work. A great work of art for a touching part of Andersen's the Little Mermaid.

I love this!! This version of the story was one of my favorite fairy tales as a child. She looks like what I had always imagined she would.

It seems that the orignals are always so much darker then what winds up in the nursery.

Thank you! Yes, the original versions of fairy tales are often much darker than people realize.
