Description
This is my gift to LiussSteen for my 200 watchers giveaway.Dear Liuss, this scene is my interpretation of a description I got from you and I tried to paint it to the best of my abilities. I hope you like it, I sure enjoyed painting it. Your initials "L & S" are hidden somewhere inside. Can you find them?
My interpretation shows a lonely traveler who found the ruins of an ancient civilization. The temple seems abandoned and there`s a sandstorm creature approaching from afar. Is this creature to blame for demise of a civilization or has it awaken from sleep because there were no more ceremonial offerings?

Wow, this is impressive! For me, it could be an illustration of one of Lovecraft's desert explorers, since they're usually in for an unpleasant surprise, as well...
What a great gift, too - I like the Morse code initials hidden in there, nice touch. Makes you wonder what the explorer would make of themΒ Β

This is such a cool, old styled color palette!Β Not many people use these color tones together in a piece and I love seeing it here!Β Looks like it's come straight out of folklore.Β And, I just noticed that one of the rock faces with the glowing eye might actually be a figure.Β Creepy!

Thank you I am indeed fascinated by folklore as well as older illustration concepts, so I guess some of the influences came through. Thank you for the kind words

Dazzling work, it has all the elements of a children's epic fantasy (not like Harry Potter more Tolkien in the desert!).
Β I don't know where you got the idea but a sand giant prowling a sand storm, while an elvish looking figure stands shadowed under the entrance of an abandoned looking kingdom is brilliant!
One of the things that gets me is how much detail is put in all the textures, from the clouds brimming with golden light and dust, to the darkened stone pillars you really seem to have gone all the way with no short corners.

Wow, thank you so much. It means a lot to see people paying attention to details. I like painting in detailed manner and I try to put a new element to my scenes in every new piece. That is how I try escaping repetition and trying to learn something new.

Thanks Narthyxa! I wanted to get that effect but the creature started only as a soft silhouette, so I though it would make a bigger impact if I really scale it up, rising from the storm. Oh, and thanks for the fave, of course

It's a big number.Β I'm struggling to get to 50.Β Seems to me like the most liked things on this website are anime/manga based and of course boobies.Β I've resisted the urge to go full boob, for now at least

VITOGH In reply to nik-ivanov [2018-03-09 08:37:14 +0000 UTC]
You just got to 50 Your art deserves a lot more exposure and please don`t give in to temptation of the boob
Continue with what you are doing, because you are really good at it!

Thank you, that means a lot.Β You're right I did hit 50 (yay for me!)Β Β
I do my art for fun, I try to improve too, I have some long term goals in mind.Β I took a few years off (kids resulted in me losing my office space and my new computer location in the living room is just not comfortable for drawing).Β Recent acquisition of an iPad opened up the floodgates since I can sit in my garage in the evening and draw, so I'm mostly back to pushing to improve again.Β That being said sometimes I am in the mood for a boob, or a dozen boobs!Β Nothing wrong with that, I was just making an observation on what gets "favorites" here.Β Quality work, and a quality boob, is in the eye of the beholder.Β Β

WOW It's absolutely not how I imagined it in my mind, but it's awesome! I love it! Β It totally looks like the most exciting scene in a book or movie, where the hero is suddenly confronted with this enormous creature, but he's not giving up this easy! And these blue and orange colors are so fitting to the atmosphere. And the sandstorm and the rocks are so amazingly well drawn! And I don't know why, but the entrance of the ruins somehow looks like a funny face to me xD And of course I found the initials immediately! They are the glowing symbols on the left. And it's a super sweet and cool idea and I love the way the letters look like ancient runes! All in all it's just amazing and I love itΒ Β Thank you so much for drawing this awesome piece of art for me Β It's really fascinating to look at it and compare it to how totally different it was in my head. It somehow reminds me of two people reading the same book, but in their heads it's totally different. That's just amazing to see! Maybe if you are interested to see how I imagined it I could find the time to draw a sketchy little picture of my version too. I mean, it's somehow unfair that I'm the only person to know both versions and who sees how amazingly different ones brain can create a world Β

Thank you Liuss, I am really glad you like it. I got some great advice about colours and lighting from my friend Kaolinn who is just an amazing artist. You should definitely check her page.
You made a good point about two people reading the same book and I would love to see how you imagined the scene
Good job on finding the "runes". ThereΛs some more haha. The lights on the first two pillars spell "L&S" as well, this time in Morse code

I just checked her out and she has some really great works! And she just earned a new watcher
I'll see when I have some time to draw my version, but it will most likely not be as detailed and beautiful as yours.
Wow, Morse code, I would have never thought there is a second "L&S"! But I can't read Morse code so there was literally no chance for me to find it xD It's so cool, like you place one secret in there to be seen and to distract from the second secret. Because who would look for more secrets if they think they've already found it. That's genius! Β

Hm... I gues it could also be a robot. I mean with that light and all. Maybe it was an ancient yet technologically advanced civilization? And thanks for the compimment on the clouds, I find them really fun to paint
