Winsor McCay is a name known to some -- but still underappreciated. Amazingly creative early 20th century cartoonist and graphic artist, he's so consistently inventive . . . few succeeding newspaper cartoon artists were anywhere near so interesting. Always a sort of inspiration . . . there are so many twists and turns in how to represent story and time, even a century later he still looks avant garde.
