Wow this is so beautiful and bright The colors go together beautifully. How do you get your coloring to stay so 'clean'? Do you use masking fluid?

TrollGirl In reply to Sarosna85 [2016-08-22 07:47:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! And no, i dont...i'm lazy guess i just try to be careful and use a small brush and not overdo the water? It's not super clean if you look up close.

Looks clean enough to me I also try to use smaller brushes but I easily get hard, ugly edges when two colors are next to each other. I guess I use too much water :/ Been using a new kind of paper lately so it still feels a bit strange.

TrollGirl In reply to Sarosna85 [2016-08-22 12:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Actually if you wish for a smooth transition between 2 colors and less 'edges', using liberal amounts of water helps.
It's a lot of exprimenting.
Good paper is also important, not all paper is good for watercolor. Taking a strip and making blobs and experimenting how it behaves is informative and helps us ruin less paintings

Yeah. I tend to be afraid of back-runs so I try to do one area after the other and let them dry fully in between but I'm starting to realize that I'm perhaps too afraid. I used Hahnemühle papers before and lifting paint is so easy with them that I never had to think about it too much but I'm using Saunders Waterford now and lifting paint is next to impossible. Masking fluid works but it's always risky to use it. I've started to keep a smaller brush and some household paper right next to me when I paint so I can always remove any pigment that escapes to where it shouldn't

TrollGirl In reply to Sarosna85 [2016-08-22 15:05:36 +0000 UTC]

Your manner of painting is very accurate and controlled, you use watercolors the way one might use markers or pencils. It can be interesting to try and control it less, make a few translucent layers of watery paint and let it 'escape' anywhere it wants before moving on to darker detail.
I personally don't do lifting, just try to leave areas that are meant to be lighter with just a little diluted paint.
