Description This is another self portrait and I must admit I am taking these regularly of late and enjoying the experience. As per usual I have been looking into the thought or emotion behind what I am doing with these. Whilst the tests I do with myself help me greatly in experimenting with my lighting techniques I think the real motivation for doing these is more about self absorption. However this is not necessarily as shallow as it may seem. By taking these shots I get to connect more with my body and my state of inner security. If I am relaxed and not too locked on the result my face and body seem to take on a look and feeling of strength and inspiration. For instance in this shot I feel that I am connecting to a place of abundance within myself and that this creates a look and feeling of peace and strength. However when I am not in a good place I tend to become absorbed in the need to get a good shot and the fear of looking weak, old or unattractive. This usually results in a shot that looks contrived and emits an energy of ego insecurity. So once again these shots do prove to me the power of mind over matter. Also makes me think that no matter what we might believe how we look does have a big role to play in how we feel about our own self worth.

nb; Haven't done any air brushing hence wrinkles and blemished skin on back are transparent. However I think if we put enough care into the photography and if the model has an energy of presence that the shots are effective as is.

asshole makes me want to slap that butt (no homo)

seriously though there is something about watching yourself in the mirror at times weither it is to question your pleasureΒ of your own bodyΒ (are you ok with how you body is/looks) orΒ to accept that what youΒ΄re looking at is realy you (in a matter of selfidentification and as you said selfseccurity)

Good stuff...I agree with the things you said about the picture when you posted it. And lots of good follow up by other viewers. You have a very handsome face in this photo, very different than the face in your profile...not saying that your profile isn't handsome, it's just very different. I think it is a very kewl to experiment with your own self images especially when learning about lighting and it's effects. I did the very same thing about three years ago. Keep up the good work, and keep the positive energy flowing; it absolutely shows through in the images. Good Luck! ~Steve

Thanks Steve, I agree with you about my face images. They change dramatically dependant upon my angle and mood.

It is a very nice shot, esp of the profile of you face. I think what you have done with the lighting works well, it is enough light but not too much (you don't look washed out), and the angles make good contrast between lit areas and shadow.

Very much agree, having the right light balance is crucial to getting the right skin/muscle tones and also in flattering the face.

Thanks although I think how I look in the shot is more testiment to my photography skills than my physical look.

Great lighting. And you're right: it's probably never shallow to connect to your own strength.

Yes, think that true strength is in our souls. Also think that the soul is humble and appreciates beauty including aesthetics.

Needs and fears often seem imposed by society. Makes one wonder whether it is indeed tied to our perception of our environment. Know that the word for 'good place' is also the same as that of 'no place' (u-topia). This may point to the mind as the one tool able to provide us with inner confort, as 'goodness' is not intrinsic to a certain place. So mind over matter indeed.

Great lightning as always.

Agree, I think that much of society is about fear, competition ect. As such in order to find true presence and rationality we are bst served to go deep inside.

I think that's a great shot of yourself.

You picked a great pose and the shadows and lights highlight the shot perfectly.
