Here we go. The most striking features of this image are the ferocity of the loup garou, the man-eating wolf creature around which you centered, and his antique setting. The setting is very apropos of his nature. You remind me of my story Les Loups Garoux about an Old One called N'girth'lu who was bigger but similar style. The wolf man here is very natural and malignant, vicious. I debate to say evil since animals lack that judgement. You have done a startling image altogether, and I like his expression. I will wait for the next part in the series, and look for the first image as well. Well-done.

Well, I would start by saying thank you. Very kind in your critique. It has been some time since I ventured into new ground with this piece and like all of us creatives, I can find many mistakes that I should have corrected. But, I leave it as it is. A reminder of my love for the legend that is The Beast of Gevaudan. I like your comment about evil. I really don't consider werewolves evil. More or less, creatures of instinct. Yes, they are part human, but the animal instinct rules the day....at least in my opinion. I tried something different in it's sequel piece and I do like it very much, but it doesn't capture nor convey the raw mood that this one does. Again, I thank you for taking the time to write and comment.

Definitely agree as well. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but I have delt with too much negativity in my life to want it coupled with my art.

There is one small problem. It wasn't a werewolf. I belive it was something else. But definitely not a werewolf.

The light and coloring is very good, but the proportions of the man-wolf is very odd in my eyes.
And personally I don't think the setting in general fits the region of Gevaudan. As far as I know it was more forested and the beast was never reported to be attacking that close to settlement as far as I know.
A think a forest or a grassy plain would have been better and closer to the reports. Also if not a four-legged being, a darker background could have highlighted the beast more.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TonyGCampagna In reply to Asanbonsam [2013-01-07 20:46:45 +0000 UTC]

I greatly appreciate the comments. As far as proportions, yes, it's a bit off. I was trying something completely new as far as technique. Layering and building the fur over patched together human and animal body stock. A bit difficult as was the same BofG 2. I had planned a third but canceled that due wanting to refine my method, which has since changed greatly.

The setting needed something more than just forest and grass but I do agree, it's not the proper historic reference. I basically made a guess and went for mood rather than historic accuracy.

If I ever attempt another, I will remember your observations. Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and critique.

oh now Iremember why the title sounded so familiar. LAst elar around haloween time, one chanel (can't remember which) had a special, two guys went to France to investigate the case. One believed in cryptozology, the other, a former cop, didn't. They both used legit and believable investigative methods in the investigation.

At first the title reminded of an old electronic game I used to play with my sis, Nightmare. Thre were several 'regions' who were controled by different creatures, one was Bathory a vampiress, another was a werewolf whose name I think was Gervaudin or something similar.

TonyGCampagna In reply to Katzztar [2011-10-22 20:23:44 +0000 UTC]

I've seen that! It was a pretty good show. I saw some facts that I never knew and some I dont quite believe. Somehow, I find it easier to believe in a werewolf terrorizing the countryside that someone with a hyena. But, I agree. Their investigation was highly organized. I wouldve done the same.

I dont remember that game. was it on a platform or PC?

It was actually a board bame that included the old video tape before CDs became so widespread and cheeper. There w as actually two of them= Nightmare and Nightmare II. I found links that have reviews for the first one, Nightmare= [link]

I think I'd love to play. Some of those retro vhs games were pretty cool. I wasnt much into the mystery vhs games, but every once in awhile, a neat sci-fi board game or other (before the atari explosion) game would show up.

A really neat background and the deatail put into this when you can see the moonlight and the wolf like a curse. Someone could use this for a cover of a book because its really good.
