It's not weird at all. Link was meant to be a character to essentially connect the player to the world. Even in an interview with Eiji Aonuma stated he wanted link (despite being male) to be more gender neutral. So I don't think it's very ah.. correct to say wether he is or isn't gay. Hell, he could be bi for all we know. It's fine for you not to like a ship just know it's fine to ship him however people like. :3

This is honestly the only mechanic for me BOTW was missing - being able to interact more with core NPCs. I would have loved to play with Sidon like this, it looks like so much fun ;; Plus Link deserves a break every once in a while.
