It's great looking, but I'd be more interested how you made it.

did the design on my computer, transferred to metal, cut them out in the shop and added rivets and paint... I think I did use a hobby etching kit on this one too, it's from the 90s so I don't really remember too much

That's too bad. I really like the design and could easily make use of it.
Thanks for replying.

I would TOTALLY buy one of these!!! Brilliant idea. I may have to make one myself if you don't start selling them soon.

Now Thats just fracking cool. Did you use the head from an actual drafting arm or did you fab that too?
I would love to have one of these on my drawing table but alas I could only afford a parraliner. But a small portable one for a small book or drawing board is ingenious.

Thanks i've always loved drafting arms since I first saw one as a kid. I fabricated all the parts for this, acid cut aluminum. I'm working on a blank book cover that will have a steampunk designed drafting arm built into it much like this one. I'm hoping to sell some of them.

I tell ya what, I'm working on a design now for a book cover that will bit 8.5 X 11 blank books with a drafting arm built in. I'll make a template and acid cut 50 or so to sell on an etsy page. I'll post here when I do

It works really well, one of the most useful things i've ever made. I had to look all over when I filled that sketchbook up a few months back, but I couldn't bare to lose the use of my drafting arm

it works really well, specially for quick designs on the fly (as so many are in this business) good luck finding one, I looked all over, had to build my own

Oh man! Talk about damn useful. I was thinking the other day how I miss being able to go into the drafting room at my old school whenever I wanted to use it for my art class. (Because I did set design so they let me in there for that)

I loved using those old drafting arms in school... back in the day so I just had to make one for myself. it's useful and nostalgic at the same time hehe

I highly recommend it, I don't use it all the time, but sometimes, you just want to be able to sketch a straight line! hehe

BloodshotProductions In reply to TimBakerFX [2008-08-16 04:27:50 +0000 UTC]
exactly..... straight lines aren't my niche. I'm used to the more organic form of the human body..... very curvy.

Yeah, one of the first places I worked for was shocked that I knew how to use the board. Left handed machines are damn hard to find though... >_>
