This is a remake of a render I posted last January (for a Dazaholics contest): Another January

At the time, I was happy enough with it, but I knew it didn't feel quite right. I posted it on a Reddit thread where somebody was looking for Daz renders to criticize. He didn't respond, but I did receive some solid constructive criticism from other users, including how unnatural the lighting looked, and how weird the pose of her feet looked. And I was already unhappy with how her hair looked. So I starting reworking it at some point last year, but then mostly forgot about it. But now that it's January again, I decided to finish the remake and post it. Hopefully it's a significant improvement!

The experience has made me wonder about the value of my comments on other artists' work on dA. I generally emphasize the positive, and I don't delve into constructive criticism because I'm not sure if the artist would welcome that. Also, I tend to think, who the heck am I to criticize other artists? But on the other hand, I would personally be thrilled if commenters would post constructive criticism here. It's very hard to judge one's own work, and I'm not always sure what my own shortcomings or mistakes are. Some aspects of art are completely subjective, of course, but I'm sure there are more objective aspects of my technique, composition, and postwork that could use improvement.
