Description Well folks, here she is. Sorry, this is a REALLY LONG backstory....I'm so sorry.
---------------------
Silverlily is a River Woman’s Daughter. According to Tolkien lore, Goldberry is the only creature of this kind mentioned, but he never states that there isn’t more than one. In The Letters of J.R.R Tolkien, Goldberry is described as the seasonal changes in Nature, she is the daughter of the Great Goddess or Mother Earth, the spirit of water itself. She is listed as a nature-spirit in the Fellowship of the Ring Sourcebook, for the LOTR Role-playing game. It’s also possible that Goldberry is the Ainu Varda in a sort of disguise too.
I’ve thought of her as a water nymph or water spirit. And if Goldberry is the daughter of the Great Mother, or Varda(Middle Earth All-Mother), than she I would believe that she would have many daughters in many rivers. Each daughter to guard a river of Middle Earth, especially the rivers associated with the elves’ dwelling places.
I adore and respect Tolkien and his lore, and I hope I’m not dishonoring him with this idea, but he did make several changes to his mythos over the years he created it, so I don’t feel I’m butchering it too badly.
Silverlily is the guardian of the Rivendell rivers. She has been there since Elrond built it, and she has known no other home. She has heard of other creatures though, and has met a few. She met Gandalf when he first visited Rivendell. The elves taught her to read and write, since she is a very curious water nymph, and from books they brought her, she learned of halfings and dwarves and other races. The elven maidens would come down to the river and sing with her, and she learned many songs through them. Silverlily loves to hear of the world beyond her river, and maps are something she asks for the maidens to bring her so she might look at them.
She can’t leave Rivendell, her river is her life force and she protects it. She can walk about Rivendell(as Goldberry walks around Tom Bombadil’s home), but she can’t travel to other places.
So all she can do is read, pour over maps, listen to the tales the elves have, and be curious about everything.
Silverlily has pale golden hair, just as Goldberry does. I think that would be the trait of every River Daughter personally. Her eyes are a silver, her skin pale, shining white in the sunlight. Her gowns are silver with gold trimming, with long and flowing sleeves, made by the elves for her. She is light-hearted, giggly, and playful. She can be somber at times, especially when she hears of the elves leaving Middle Earth some day.
When Bilbo and the dwarves arrive in Rivendell, she is anxious to meet them all, but the Halfling especially.
During the first few hours that Bilbo is there, as he’s cleaning up for the dinner Elrond is preparing for them, he hears her singing. Like Goldberry, her voice is bright, beautiful, and enchanting. He follows it to down to one of the banks, thinking that the voice is from there, and assuming it is an elf. But he doesn’t see a source of the voice for a while, and it very confused. The singing stops, and suddenly, Silverlily burst out of the water, her eyes bright with laughter and her smile radiant. She startles poor Bilbo, and he falls back onto the mossy grass.
Her smile fades and she apologizes immediately and asks him if he's alright. Bilbo is bashful and stutters a bit, taken a back by her gentle beauty. He finally tells her he is fine and smiles kindly at her to reassure her, seeing such concern in her eyes.
Silverlily's smile returns and she giggles happily, and exclaims with joy that he is a halfing, and how excited she is to meet a halfing. Bilbo smiles happily, and introduces himself, still a bit flustered. Silverlily introduces herself formerly, and asks Bilbo if he knows what she is. Bilbo remembers the stories he has read of the River Woman's daughters, mainly of Goldberry. He tells her what he has read, and guesses at what she is, and she delightfully confirms that she is a River Daughter.
Their first meeting is cut short by Gandalf calling for Bilbo, to join in the dinner that Elrond has prepared for them. Bilbo says goodbye to the Silverlily, and she asks if he will come visit her again. Bilbo hopes that he can, her presence makes him feel calm and delighted. So he says he will try to, and she giggles in delight.
In the book, Thorin and comapny stay in Rivendell at least 2 weeks, and Thorin is not so hateful towards the elves, wishing to learn mroe from Elrond. So, I would rather follow the book, and give them more time in Rivendell. The next morning after Bilbo's arrival, he goes to see Silverlily again. She is overjoyed to see him again, and she asks him to tell her everything about him and the Shire. Bilbo, still a bit bashful around such a gentle and beautiful girl, obliges her. As he talks to her about the Shire, she listens intently and delightfully.
Then Bilbo asks her more about herself, and her kind. She tells him happily, and Bilbo learns that there are many River Daughters, each one a guardian of a river. There's even a daughter in the Brandywine, though her sisters are not nearly as curious as she about the world. She also tells him that she wishes she could be an adventurer like him, but she can never leave Rivendell.
He asks why, and she explains that River Daughters are connected to their rivers. The river is a part of them, their life forces are connected to the river they inhabit. So, she contents herself with the maps in Master Elrond's library, and Bilbo expresses his love for maps then. Silverlily asks if he has looked at the maps in the library, and he replies he hasn't. She asks him if he would look over them with her, and from there, they spend ,any hours a day together.
Silverlily has never met anyone like Bilbo before, he is not like the elves, not as reserved or solemn. He is happy, gentle in spirit, he makes her laugh, and gives her heart a joy she has never known. Bilbo finds her a true delight to be with, she is full of gentle beauty, a joy in her eyes he has never seen. She giggles constantly, which makes him blush, and she makes his heart beat faster than he thought possible, being a sensible fellow such as he is.
When Thorin decides it is time to leave Rivendell, he informs Bilbo and the company they will leave three days from that night. Bilbo is grieved, realizing that he has fallen in love witht eh River Daughter, and he wishes to stay in Rivendell.
He sadly goes to Silverlily, and she sees the sorrow behind his smile. When he tells her the news, her eyes turn from silver to grey, so heart-broken is she that he is leaving. For now, she realizes that she loves Bilbo. She begins to sob, and Bilbo finds himself holding her, trying to console her as best he can. She exclaims that she does not want himt o leave, though she knows that his adventure is not over. She apologizes for her selfishness of wanting him to stay, but he tells her that he would wish more than anything to stay in Rivendell, to stay with her. He confesses that he's never known anyone like her before, and confesses that he loves her. Silverlily's eyes change again, the grey leaves the, and the silver returns, shining brighter than they ever had before. She confesses her love for him too, and those last three days they spend together in bliss.
Bilbo promises that he will return to Rivendell, and be with Silverlily once more. Silverlily believes that he will, and tells him that she knows he is no ordinary halfing. She gives him a lock of her golden hair to take with him, so that she will be near him in a way. He accepts it happily, and gives her a spare vest button of his.
During Bilbo's journey through Mirkwood, and all of the nights that he is cold and lonely, Silverlily visits him in his dreams. She brings him hope and comfort, and the promise that they will be together again some day.
I don't think that it is mentioned in the book whether or not Bilbo visited Rivendell on his way back to Hobbiton, but for my part, I'd like to think he did. And for my purposes, he does.
Upon his return, he hears a sorrow-filled song coming from the river, and the elves inform him that Silverlily has sung many sad songs, both of hope and of longing, for her love to return to her. Bilbo finds her, in the very spot they first met, and gently calls her name. She turns to see him, and runs to him. They embrace joyously, and Bilbo spends many weeks with her.
But after a time, Silverlily begins to feel that there is something that Bilbo must do back in Hobbiton, that his journey does not end with her in Rivendell, at least, not yet. Bilbo is saddened that she thinks this, but he loves her, and wants to please her. So, after much thought and speaking with Silverlily, Bilbo decides to return to Hobbiton for a time.
Silverlily awaits him patiently, knowing in her heart that he will return to her. River Daughters live as long as their rivers live, and she knows that Bilbo will return before the elves leave Rivendell, drying the river up.
And he does, after his 111th birthday. When it is time for the elves to leave Middle earth, and Elrond takes Bilbo with him to the Grey Havens, Silverlily remains, to Bilbo's grief. She cannot leave her river after all. But she holds on to the hope that when her river dries, it will some how, find it's way to the White Shores of the West. That she might be reunited with her Bilbo.
----------------------------------------

I left this piece very sketchy, because I like that for first-concept pieces for some reason lol. I'm not much of a dress designer either.
Love you all always!

All characters and places mentioned, other than Silverlily, belong to J.R.R. Tolkien.

I absolutely LOVE the Tolkien fan-art!  Though perhaps I should've said I have four Hobbit OC's.  They are Morgana Fallon, Mellium Crowley, Barran Byrne (who is actually a lost Hobbit princess), and Venussa Blake.

Also, I could make a picture of one of my Hobbit girls with Kelda if you'd like!

Dang, that is some Rapunzel hair. Good thing River Daughters are blessed with lots of water and no tangles. She looks interesting. Way different than what I'd make in an OC. XD

A lady of Rohan. Just to begin with. But her lineage is of Gondor, as she is dark while those of Rohan are fair. That's just the gist of what I'm working on.

One of my Hobbit girls, Barran Byrne, has long hair; 20 feet of red ombre hair to be exact!  Her uniquely long hair has earned her the title of "Rapunzel of the Shire"!

OMG her hair is <3 <3 I always did wonder why they never included Goldberry in the films, I suppose it would detract from the focal point of Frodo and his Journey. This OC is beautiful hun, reminds me of Galadriel in that gown!

eeeeee yeesss, I do love to make RIDICULOUSLY long hair. and yes, unfortunately, Jackson even mentioned somewhere I believe that he had been up for including Tom Bombadil and GOldberry, but was discouraged from it. The general viewers wouldn't get it since Tom is not one of the major characters. -_-; Thank you SO SO much Blue, I was eager to receive your feedback on her, you being a fellow Tolkien fan! and SQUEEEEEE!! her dress was indeed inspired by Lady Galadriel, though not intended! but Galadriel is one of my heroines so she problably subconsciously inserted herself here.

Great character and interesting backstory! <3

I wish my OCs were a little more complex, but unfortunately I really don't know much about the history of LOTR. And every time I look up something relating to it, I just get more and more confused. I guess my brain just can't hold all the information. I've actually been telling people that Masters of the Universe is my Lord of the Rings. That franchise is home to some of my most well-developed OCs. But even so, I still get confused. XD;

But anyway, I shall be drawing my LOTR OCs soon!
