The inspiration is clear and the opening of that show is my absolute favorite TV moment.

While one can argue the efficiency and expediency is inferior to what we can do today, there is a charm and whimsy, even a bit of romanticism about those days of transportation that seems to be lacking with our modern marvels. Is a jumbo jet liner imminently practical and relatively affordable? Yes. Is there anything truly joyous of the experience? No, not really.

Exactly, let me tell ya, if we can combine the efficiency and expediency of the future and charm and whimsy of the past, then we shall be golden or at least look like we are golden as a society. (if ya see what am saying)

we're also in the wrong universe. Let's move to one who's laws of physics are friendlier to airships
wait... what about Mars? Or the Moon? The gravity is lesser there...

That rather reminds me of the HAVOC program suggested for exploring both Mars and Venus. Not sure if HAVOC is still an active program, although the acronym is delicious.

Lemme guess: the train takes four minutes to cover four years' walking distance?

That would be some speed, wouldn't it? Not even a MagLev manages that in four minutes.

That's the problem with inside jokes. If you're not in on it, you don't get it.
Sadly, I appear not to be in on it.

"By jingo, you're likely right there missy! Automobiles will never replace the trains for long trips either, or I'll eat my hat! I don't care how many Henry Ford claims to sell. Probably giving them away... yeah..."
