ahhh, thanks! you mean the anime? I just googled it, and I can see some similarities with the gray haired character and the little child... in any case I have to check it out more thoroughly, looks like I there's a good chance I'd like it a lot xD

I read the book at a younger age. The story stuck with me. But also alters my opinion on any art which slightly resembles the characters.

the anime is based on a book by Hector Malot.  I read it as a child, bawled my eyes out.
