is grandmother esk
because of course
she is the best

tall and quiet
to many a mother,
she cares for them,
like any other.

she gives her heart
her time
her love

she gives it all for free

she gives her strength to the tall mountains, reaching towards the sky.
she gives her thoughts into the sea, expansive thoughts so deep.
she gives her mind to human places, pondering and young.
she gives her heart there to the trees, green stem stick into canopies.
she gives her patience to the sand, heat high and low yet parched.
she gives persistence to the stream, carve cut canyons through the land.
she gives her time into the ice, sunkissed moons chase endless night.

and all along she gives it all
as giving is her call

the first

a withered soul to light the way for sprouts and stems and smiles
