Oh - this name fits her perfectly.Β GOT ref or not - it works either way
She is an absolutely beautiful mare - I can see why you fell for her.Β And the way you painted the background just compliments her so well.Β
The new method of brown (grey) scale coloring you are using is definitely working for you.Β The highlights and shadows look perfect on her.
Congrats on acquiring another fabulous Faime!Β

I agree. There's ones that you know you'll adore even as you invent them, and others that just kind of surprise you Thank you, its great to hear you quite like her already ^^
Ohmigod - its a hassle! Well...okay...The thing is, its not difficult to do and it actually preserves colour far better than some other greyscale methods I've used, including my preferred method. Using a greyscale as an overlay can tweak the colours on the base layer, and white markings I've often had to shade separately because an overlay of the shading just doesn't bring out the shadows. So although there's just one shading layer, sometimes I have to tweak that and there are downsides.
With this...it is a hassle because you have to copy the shading layer several times over, changing their hues, values, balances and whatever else to make the entire horse appear all the colours you need (so a layer for the main body, for dark points/legs, for a grey muzzle, for pangare or roaning, for white markings, for pink skin on those markings etc). And then you have to stack them right so that when you erase the parts you don't need, you end up seeing the colours that you want (so pink ontop of the white, ontop of pangare/dark points, on top of the base and so on). That's the annoying part - all the layers and working to get them the right colour, just by tweaking values. But once that's done...this is why I'm using it more. You don't lose any of the shading or details like you can with overlays. Each tweaked layer retains the colouring, so even white markings still have shadows and highlights. I just think it preserves the colour better, once you're able to get it.
I do encourage you to try it, though. I think it could easily be one of those methods that you either like, and put up with the downsides, or you try once and just don't connect with because of the downsides. I'd love to see what you could do, using this method

I can't seem to master shading like that, I see a lot of debs do it, but I just can't grasp the techniqueΒ
