Description
Whilst i've been making Dinoverse artwork, one thing I had been wanting to do was showcase a rough plan of what the main characters look like as humans.
The only trouble is, whilst I like to think myself pretty decent at drawing (most) things, one thing i usually struggle with is drawing realistic humans.

So a while ago, I requested some help from a fellow deviant and after some careful discussion of details....
they came up with THESE beautiful works of art which perfectly showcase my idea of how the characters should look.
Like seriously... I apart from EXTREMELY minuscule details, these are pretty much exactly how the story describes them.

the main difference being that they were 13 in the original book but in my adaptation i'm ageing them up to being around 15-16 year old.

But that aside... going from left to right.
The characters you see here are...

(FAR LEFT) BERTRAM PHILIPS
AGE: was 14, now just turned 15, youngest of the four.

To put it into basic terms, he is the main socially awkward dino-geek that we follow through the story
and the one who created the very machine that by sheer random accident, caused the whole mess in the first place.
Naturally, as you'd expect, he feels very guilty about it, and with the pressure of the high stakes, they must overcome or else face NEVER returning home.

He is sorta short for his age and "a little round in places he really wished he wasn't" but overall, is a "good-looking boy" as his relatives would tell him.
And for those who are wondering, his necklace has a tiny fragment of tyrannosaurus rex bone that was found at his dad's current dig site.

His creation, the M.I.N.D. Machine > DINOVERSE PROJECT: M.I.N.D Machine
Was just supposed to be a fun science fair illusion.
For whatever unknown reason, it went haywire and essentially evolved into something SO MUCH more.

It took Bertram's mind/soul, and those of three fellow students (mentioned below and in the image) out of their respective bodies, transplanted them millions of years into the distant past, and placed them within the bodies of preexisting dinosaurs. And From there they must work as a group to travel on a 300-mile quest across a terrifying prehistoric world in order to have any chance of getting to the mysterious standing stones (which will one day be part of the dig site his father works at) and hopefully GO HOME.

(MIDDLE LEFT) MIKE PETEREFSKY
AGE: 16, oldest of the main four.

Before the accident, he was essentially one of the main sport-stars in the school, admired by most students, tall for his age, and actually quite handsome.
having a "buzz-cut" hair style and strong cheekbones just to give a random example. Yet despite that popular position, he is not actually like your typical "jock" character.

In fact...as well as being fairly smart, by all accounts he is actually a REALLY decent person, often looking out for the little guys
and by extension, is one of the few other students that treats Bertram Philips with great respect.

And indeed, before the accident, Mike is one of Bertram's only true friends.
However, this attitude had put him at odds with his supposed best friend/teammate Sean O Malley.

And Sean is (let's put it this way) nowhere near as nice as mike is.
having a very "the strong survive, the weak do not" (aka: so called: Survival of the "Fittest") sort of mentality.
and before the accident, He had arranged a certain "event" to take place.
One that Mike had been dreading for weeks on end.

And if you are wondering about his jacket, it's his older brother's used varsity jacket.
With a little logo of "The Wetherford Wolverines" on it as that is the team Mike is part of.

(MIDDLE RIGHT) CANDAYCE CHAMBERS
AGE: 15

Now if I was to describe her as a human, I'd ask you lot to imagine perhaps the most stereotypically beautiful American high school girl you can imagine...one with long blond hair, glittering green eyes, smooth tanned skin, pretty little nose, aqua green blouse/shirt, cloud print skirt, well groomed eyelashes with eyeliner, painted fingernails etc.

Now imagine that despite all the beauty she has on the outside, there is practically none of that on the inside. In other words, as far as her personality goes, she's a really nasty piece of work. It is she, and fellow popular girls like her (such as Tanya Call) who decide who is fit to hang with the elite; anyone deserving of less earns endless, scathing ridicule, the worst saved for the person she has the most bitter past with, Janine Farehouse.

She is essentially what some people would probably call a bratty "beauty queen" and of course is by far the most popular girl in school. This is VERY sad as poor Bertram has an irrational crush on her (despite knowing how horridly mean she can be), and everyone seems to realize it save for her; she barely realises he exists until the accident...

Anyway... it should also be mentioned that despite being spoiled by her parents since she was little, she sometimes has a lot of pent up stress, anger & bad dreams, so she takes therapy. She also attends martial arts classes, mostly as a fun trendy way to exercise and blow off some steam. Many times her instructor/sensei would try to impart bits of wisdom to her, but often she would just try to dismiss it as nothing but pretentious nonsense.

However... when she gets put into the world of the dinosaurs, she will find herself relying on those tidbits of wisdom more and more.
Safe to say the experience of being turned into a dinosaur will be life-changing for her especially.

(FAR RIGHT) JANINE FAREHOUSE
AGE: middle part of her 15th year.

Now Janine is indeed an interesting character to describe...
sort of an outsider/loner person who mostly keeps to herself but had a particularly strong presence: with her fairly compact body, black unkempt hair, shiny nose-rings, flannel shirt, with black and white striped T beneath, a black beaded necklace, black gloves, dark blue jeans (slightly ripped at the knees) and black laced boots.

especially with her aquamarine eyes that can tell so much about you just from one VERY hard stare.

She also has an iconic key chain held by the steel key ring shaped like a wolf
and every so often she flicked her keys on their long chain, making a "cha-ching" sound.

She was often considered (by students and teachers alike) to be a rather unpopular rebellious sort of spirit
often finding a way to get herself out of trouble, even though she sometimes enjoyed the thrill of nearly getting into it.

Many parts of the town have seen her graffiti sprayed in various places: on walls, on buses, and on bridges.
Heck, there was even one incident where she dumped a WHOLE load of bubble bath into the fountain on the main street.

As if that isn't all, She and her mom's relationship is (shall we say) a little stained.
A few years ago, they lost Janine's father from him fighting overseas and since then, Janine has had to help out a lot with her mother's Bed and Breakfast that she runs on the eastern outskirts of the town. When she's not at schoo, or getting in trouble, that is typically where she is, changing sheets, vacuuming floors or dealing with customers.

As well as that, she also has a VERY bitter rivalry with Candayce Chambers. Let's just say there was an incident where Candy humiliated poor Janine several times over and caused her to "grow a thick skin" if you will. And since then, whenever she passes by Candayce, she'd give her and her friends a really intense glare that they come to nickname "the evil eye".

So that is the appearance the character's human bodies before their minds/souls were snatched out and placed into dinosaurs.
I had been trying to think of a good time to share this and it now feels so gratifying to do so now.
