Purple blood is the highest, of course. Trolls with purple blood are considered royalty. In accordance to Homestuck, this includes Feferi, Eridan, and Gamzee.
Then it's the blue blood nobility. Equius, Vriska, and to some extent, Terezi, fall in this category. (Terezi considers her blood "a little too teal" to really be thought of as a blue blood but I include her here anyway.)
The next group are the green bloods, Kanaya and Nepeta. I think they're the neutral class, not too high and not too low.
Last but not least, the "rust-bloods": Sollux, Tavros, and Aradia. They're at the lowest ranks of the hemospectrum and are considered peasants.
Karkat isn't on the hemospectrum because his bright red blood is considered mutant on his planet. I guess, in regards to blood types on Alternia, he would be the equivalent to an albino there.

As far as I know, the Highbloods are insusceptible to psychic attacks but are more prone to mental instability. Why this is, I'm not sure but there are plenty of fan theories and speculations out there that try to explain it. I just can't think of any right now xD

Heh heh, here's a cool thought. Karkat is associated with crabs (lol) and crabs are semi-aquatic, being able to live on both land and sea. So if you think about it like that, he's kinda the bridge between the land dwellers and the sea dwellers!
I don't know if that matters at all but I personally love that idea

Dave is a jerk in this for two reasons, the first mentioned by SuperCatGirl below, the second is that Dave is actually really afraid of trolls. He was fine with them on the computer, but in person they freak him out. He knows how aggressive they can get and he's afraid John will end up like that. So he lashes out even though he doesn't mean to or want to.
