Happy Pokémon Day, my Awesome Dragons!

Oh, I've waited a LONG time to finally get started on something I wanted to do for years! I made a personal goal of mine to play through each generation of the Pokémon main series games, and I got this idea to draw artwork of my teams, along with important dates for getting certain conclusions or becoming the Champion of that respective region. The only catch is I'm doing these in order of the regions' introductions, starting from Kanto on the Gameboy to Paldea on the Switch.

I've been a fan of Pokémon since I was a small kid. One of my fondest memories is sneaking into the video game section of my daycare just to play Pokémon Stadium on Nintendo 64. I also watched the anime on Cartoon Network. These guys would definitely have been the team I would have had when I was five or six if I had a gameboy and a copy of Yellow, or any of the original series that was released outside of Japan. For a little bit of basis on their names, Rambi is named after the rhino from Donkey Kong Country, while Gamera is named after the gigantic turtle Kaiju, and Valoo is after the dragon guardian of the Rito from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Charlie and Blackberry's names didn't really come from anywhere. They just came naturally. As for Kolyada's name, that comes from the Slavic title for the moment between Christmas and Epiphany (probably named her that because I first caught her around Christmastime). The format I was going for with this work was I wanted it to feel like a photograph, from the layout to the composition, the date I beat the game, and the glinting effect. For the background, I initially thought I would go for something based off of the boxart for the game, but all that yellow got too monotonous and distracting. I don't have that much experience drawing a lot of Pokémon, and there are some things I wish I could have done better, but I'm really happy about how the artwork came out. As I continue to play the games and await future adventures, there's gonna be plenty more artwork of my teams to come! I'm really excited!
