The drawing and painting is very good, as it is in your other pieces. Your painting style lends itself well to this kind of subject.

I am a bit puzzled by the light source angle, given the light intensities and depth of shadows, but will take it on faith.

If you hate doing hands that means you get to do lots and lots of hands, lol. Something that can help is to dray drawing hands from real 3D, like statues (churches and museums have them), or trap some hapless friends, family members, or lover as a live model. It can help you gain sense of dimension and texture. DA has some great human references for male and female anatomy.

Your work reminded me of Tritones I have used before. When you mentioned using Color overlays, I wonder if the overlays are tonally based.

Have you ever looked into Duotones, Tritones, and Quadtones, which are in Photoshop and are applied to grayscale images. For example, you can pick three inks from thousands of shades (i.e. Pantone, etc).

If you picked a black, magenta and yellow, each ink would be used in different intensities and you would create a tonal distribution curve for each color, which would map to your image's tonal distribution (like in your images grayscale histogram). Photoshop comes with a large number of canned ones.

This can create an image with subtle coloring that does not overpower or muddy the image's clarity. If done correctly, the result is an image with greater depth of color than a plain grayscale image. A tritone adds richness, tonal interest and greater depth of color to an image.

Thank you

It was drawn using a photo reference and I assume the light source is a small spotlight to the top right.

Haha yeah I really should practice hands more. My boyfriend has nice hands so might get him to model for me if he can sit still for long enough. I swear he has ADD or something. Always has to be moving around.

The overlays were made by making a new layer in Photoshop, setting it to overlay mode and just painting colors.

I have used those tones in Photoshop before but I prefer to do the colors myself. For me painting is all about the fun, not the finished product, and I find using all the preset Photoshop stuff is a lot less fun so I try to do everything myself.

I agree that in your application of color, overlays are the way to go, because you need to apply color specifically. Tritones & Duotones are really only meant for printing, and the distribution of color and color intensity based on the tones of the image. I create my own custom ones, rather than use the canned one, because you can control the mood and temperature with your own custom designs. I was just wondering if you were familiar with them.

I had a Graphic Design Company (Sandpiper Graphics, which did a lot of print media work for magazine advertising, print packaging, poster work, catalogs, etc, plus the color separations, color workflows. Also did Digital art, photo restoration, photo compositing and effects for print media, etc. I never did much web work, other than site architecture design. So we come from very different ends of the business. I wish I could be working, but I am disabled now. Arthritis that started at age 12 finally brought me to a standstill, but I gave it a good push through the years.

As for your boyfriend, try handcuffs, lol

Best of luck.

Very, very nice. I am completely ignorant as to what the novel is talking about, so I will refrain from saying that Edwards looks like a vampire so as to not sound idiotic for whatever reason.
That looks terrific indeed. Amazing job, well done.

Squet In reply to ivan-osorio [2009-02-16 10:20:12 +0000 UTC]

He's not really described as looking like a typical vampire in the books, besides the pale skin. I tried to make him look more like a normal vampire in this because i think the vamps in Twilight are ridiculous. They sparkle in the sun... totally lame.

Thanks

I enjoyed it a lot while i was reading it, but when i finished i started thinking about it... and it's really quite crap. The writer had no idea what she was doing, but the story is interesting and kinda intense.

I've never read them, and I never will. I've seen how it's written, and it's disturbingly done.

I accidently read the "Of Bones" Series, and that was hard enough to read... From what i've heard, Meyer wrote her series worse than that

True. She is not a writer at all. Plus the whole Mormon thing makes the books rather boring. I mean no offense to religious people at all, but some of them are super boring.

I've never heard of that series but thanks for the warning!

you are right, they are pretty boring individuals, well, mostly.

City Of Ashes. City Of Bones, and City Of Glass. They're pretty damned horrible. There's also quite a lot of hinted Incest, Although it never really happens.

Kinda makes me sick.
