My last painting at age 24

This... has been an epic, transformative year.

I've made some excellent new friends and am moving away from some ancient, tired trauma. It feels good to set down all the weight. I'm letting go of people and things that have hurt me; I feel happier than I've been in ages.

Lalein and Colleen are two headmates who transcend simple characters for me. They are my protectors, my parents, my friends. This year, I've had the great honour of sharing them with more and more people in my real life - people who take them seriously, who realize that I'm... not neurotypical, that I function in a way that might be peculiar, but is driven by hope and healing. And I am one of the lucky few who has been accepted into not only a group of new friends who really support and love me for who I am, but multiple new groups who support and love me for who I am. It's almost frightening, this feeling of warm belonging.

For having been with me for something like seventeen years now, I can see them better, clearer than ever. In my turbulent childhood, they counselled me and mitigated a lot of my pain. Before I observed this moment in my mind, Colleen once again stepped in the way of danger for me, once again protected me. Now that I am a warm, happy, stable adult, I want to return the favour.

He is the dark in which she sleeps. He keeps her safe. She is his light, and he will foster her always. Meanwhile, I am the humble observer trying to capture a sacred moment of catharsis and peace between them in the yawning cavern of my headspace. All I can offer them is the love they offer me.

May 2019 treat all of you as well as it's been treating me. On to the next quarter of my life with myself and these precious people in tow.
