well, I have always thought the sun was he and the moon was she, and that is the typical way its viewed in most mythology... although there are some exceptions... J.R.R. Tolkien said the sun was female and the moon was male, and the moon loved the sun and chased her, but got too close once and got burnt, an that's why we see the dark spots on the face of the moon.
But most cultures have considered the sun as male and moon as female, from what I know.

Wonderful and I love Tolkien. It seems I'm the only one overhere who read his books twice before they made them into a movie grinnnnnnnnn So the moon is a she? Ha, full moon always makes me sleepless.....................

well, like I said, by most cultures the moon is a she... but in The Silmarillion, Tolkien says that Anar, a Maiar, was so bright nobody could look directly at her, and even Morgoth was afraid of her brightness... and when Morgoth killed the two trees, they rescued a fruit from each just before they died, and made vessels for them, and Anar was set to guide the vessel of the sun fruit, and Tilion was set to guide the vessel that held the moon fruit, and they were then set in the heavens so Morgoth could not despoil them again... but Tilion was uncertain in his course, and enamored of Anar, and followed her erratically, and once got too close and was burned.
This is why Gandalf tells the Balrog that the flame of Anar is stronger than the flame of Uldun (or ildun, not sure of the spelling) when they battled in Moria

well, I know Tolkien very well. I have read LOTR at least five times, and The Silmarillion even more times... also Unfinished zTales, which gives a lot of weird little bits of background info and a few expanded versions of stories in the Silmarillion. ANd of course I have seen the LOTR film a number of times too.

mine too, although some of the parts that are written over in Unfished Tales are better, like the Narn i hin Hurin, much more expanded version in Tales than the one in Silmarillion. I would like to get the more recently released full Narn... but haven't had the chance to pick it up yet

When I was in college (university) we would tan and then *paint* with some liquid tanning stuff. We looked a little too orange sometimes!
