A lot of people say that Rainbow is out-of-character in "The Mysterious Mare-do-Well". I'm not sure of that but I do think the character's negative qualities are over-exaggerated to create a problem for the other characters to solve. That said, creating a superhero just to slap your friend down? Not exactly a proportionate response and think of all the foals whose hearts will be broken when their 'hero' disappears!
I do take issue with those who claim that the others of the Mane Six went out to 'humiliate' Rainbow. That isn't really the case - they were trying to show her that she didn't need to grandstand and shouldn't grandstand when lives are on the line. Most of the times when MDW upstaged Rainbow it was because she was so busy playing up to the crowd that MDW got to the scene of the action first.
That said... MDW and Rainbow as... I dunno... Supermane...? Well, it might make a good team-up in a fanfiction. Their rescue double-act at the building site showed the potential for them to have worked together for the greater good.

I like this episode, but don't you think RD's friends act a little too harsh? I mean, they never told her that her attitude bothered them. They straight up decided to show off and make her feel powerless by going "well you do save a lot of lives... But you're not perfect and that bothers us. THIS is how you go perfect". Also, nobody was against RD's ego but the rest of Mane6, infact her fans loved her for who she was. RD ended up making a fool of herself because of her friends IMO. Also, i think the writing is a bit off. I mean, would Fluttershy really fly pass RD like that?

I agree, she can be annoying. Its just the way she brags sometimes, but she's nice in some episodes. For some reason she appears to be everyone's favorite, but I prefer Rarity better. Or Spike.

I actually liked RD in that ep, is it weird that I actually thought what the others did was kinda mean (Shouldnt they of supported her in her heroism, not undermined her? I actually felt that they undermined her but atleast Dashie learned something. )

To be honest, I thought they were all total dicks in that episode. Every single one of them. Dash for turning her narcissism up to eleven and becoming a totally unlikable egotist, and her friends for deciding that the best way to do something about this was to attack her famously fragile ego, constantly one up her, LAUGH IN HER FACE when she comes to them for comfort and not for a moment actually, oh I don't know, TALK TO HER about the problems they had with her behaviour. And then they just pretended nothing happened at the end! If this hadn't been a twenty minutes kids' show, I would have expected Dash to flip out completely and possibly cause a deep rift between her and her friends that would take some time to heal, but she just laughed it all off ಠ_ಠ.
Worst episode ever, by far. Without it "The Games We Play" could not have existed, I guess, but that truly is its only saving grace.

To be honest we should give RD some credit since she was saving lives and being a HUGE Heroine in that ep, besides other heros/heroines in other shows not only are a LOT more egotistical *coughtonystarkcough* they STAY egotistical.
if you ask me I think the other six SHOULD of just talked to her about it. If I was one of them I would of rejected the "Mare Dowell" idea the other ponies suggested, telling them that is the most mean way to go about it and suggesting that we just talk to her. Then depending in their answers I'd eather walk away and hang out with Dashie more or we'd talk to her.

Well, she truly was incredibly obnoxious in that episode. I don't think being a hero is really an excuse for be a dick. That other heroes are even worse doesn't really justify her behaviour.
Yes, they most definitely should have talked to her. That's what annoys me the most, to be honest. They not only behaved like total asses towards her, they did so without even letting her know they were bothered by her behaviour and didn't display any kind of sympathy towards her when she was clearly vert upset..
And Loyalty doesn't mean letting other people buck you over without any kind of repercussions.

She wasnt really being that bad though, sure she got caught up in the praise of ponies but to be blunt in an ep so did Rarity (Yet Rarity got off easier for some reason) the bottom line though is even while being cocky about it she was still doing a lot of good.
Exactly, what kind of friends do that? they should of givin her an understanding ear, but then again they shouldnt of pulled off the Mare Do Well thing to begin with, (If anything they should of just approched her, talked to her about her attitude, then offer to help her in situations where it takes more then just one pony to save the day)
well depends on how one looks at Loyalty. sometimes loyalty means giving your friends free passes.

A lot of people say they lost respect for Rainbow Dash in this episode, but I ended up liking her even more. This episode along with the turtle one are tied as my favorites because Rainbow Dash reminded me of myself. lol

I'd say moving the wing back a little and changing the feathers on the wing to something more "thicker" (I don't even know how to say in English xD) would make it seem better (at least in my eyes).

Rainbow Dash has always been one of my least favorites, honestly, just because she's so arrogant. I really liked her in the episode with Tank, and HOPEFULLY the lesson she learned in this episode will sink in and her personality might get less obnoxious. MAYBE.

The episode was my least favourite, only because I didn't really like the plot. But I'll watch it again sometime soon...as for Dashie, I think the creators did say that Season 2 might change your opinion on certain characters. I like to think she made up for it in Episode 9 though ^^

In regards to Dash, nobody is perfect and nice all the time. The show tends to exaggerate the bad portions of each pony's personality to prove a point or lesson. In all likelihood she's not /that/ much of a dick, we just see her at her dickiest.

I realize that nobody's perfect, and all the ponies have their flaws. It would be a boring show if they didn't, but Rainbow Dash seems to make an ass of herself in just about every episode. Perhaps it's just me that feels that way.
