Took the FJR out today looking for some eagles, found this one.. tried to use a lens doubler on 200mm.. not good.. didn't work out well so went with the 200mm only and sneak, then shoot, then sneak, then shoot.. i NEED a 400mm or 500mm.. hopefully before too long.. sigh..Related content

Thanks.. I was messing with white balance settings and he launched.. prefer those kinds of shots.. that why i had shutter speed cranked so high to get crisp shot when the bail cause they are swift!

that's what i was aiming for.. got a few of him taking off and away from the lens.. didn't really like them so i didnt post them.. I prefer the launch of landing shots.. static is fine.. stoic.. but I like em the other way..

As soon as I can I am headed out by the Missouri River area in South Dakota to see if I can catch some Eagles in flight myself.

I'd definitely recommend 800th to 1000th of a second shutter speed.. I tried 500 and always ended up with wing tip blur unless they were simply coasting.. but for launch or landing their wings are moving very swiftly.. High cycle shutter and fill the card with images to pick and choose the best image. Talked to Paul who is a local and he suggested adjusting white balance to bring in some detail on the animal which is what I adjusting when this guy took off on me.. (he shoots with 400-500mm Canon).. www.pbase.com/plischeid

Yeah the coastline is loaded with driftwood.. that spot usually has quite a few eagles flying around and hunting.. going to spend more time out there this summer trying to get better shots!
