Description Been designing some Toads recently for other things, so I thought I'd throw together a basic Toad Town entrance to put some of them in.

Woah, it is truely gorgeous. What can I say ? I love what you did with these characters, they all look so nice, so neatΒ and unique (which is particularly noteworthy since... you know... Sticker Star). And oh my stars, this toad lady in the bottom left corner (the one with the pink mushroom cap) is so beautiful. And these guards, they look absolutely amazing. I mean, you have made a toad - yes, a toad ! - genuinely intimidating. It deserves some praise, don't you think (even if I am not convinced that these armors make them more competent, they are still toads after all). On a side note, it feels especially nice to see Toadtown again... Damn, now I want to play Paper Mario (Nintendo 64)Β one more time.

Those Shroom Knights look amazing! I also love teh way you are doing their hair so much better than what Nintendo did with Toadette, freaks me out.

Ooh, nice. I like the looks of the different Toads. They're so diverse and unique! It's an ideal for Paper Mario!Β

That's why it's so... so sad... that they didn't learn... their lesson... from Sticker Star...

ToxicIsland In reply to DoJayMi [2016-07-15 02:09:01 +0000 UTC]

Well you have to keep in mind that Color Splash started development immediately after Sticker Star and before the games backlash arrived so I'm sure Nintendo would use them next time.

Maybe... Miyamoto is currently the one in charge of the Paper Mario games, sadly enough. He doesn't want originality for those games. It really makes me sad.

ToxicIsland In reply to DoJayMi [2016-07-15 04:01:25 +0000 UTC]

Well it's never said that he's in charge of Color Splash, and it was actually Tensuke Kanabe, the game's producer, who made all the NPCs Toads.

You think these kinds of Toads would have a bigger chance of being in a new Mario film or TV show than in Color Splash?

ToxicIsland In reply to DoJayMi [2016-04-18 01:49:24 +0000 UTC]

I personally don't mind the Toads, just as long as their veriaty is in a new TV show but not in the games.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 03:49:18 +0000 UTC]

That's a little shallow, don't you think? What's wrong with any one species having more varried characters/designs in future games?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2017-09-29 04:41:31 +0000 UTC]

I think their might be more unique Toad designs coming in future Mario games and other media according to this picture:Β www.mariowiki.com/images/f/fd/… which was made after Paper Mario Color Splash was released.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 10:59:04 +0000 UTC]

Their's nothing wrong with it, I'm just saying people should rather be focusing on gameplay rather than characters in video games.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 13:30:52 +0000 UTC]

I strongly disagree. Characters and story DRIVE a RPG. That's what made the first 3 Paper Mario games great. Sure they had great gameplay as well, but without those interesting locations, characters, and story they would have been boring games.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 16:14:23 +0000 UTC]

Still do you think modern Nintendo is better than classic Nintendo with games like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and others?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 16:23:32 +0000 UTC]

I think you are confusing the issue here. Those are games in different genres. The Paper Mario series is and should always be a story-driven RPG game. Mario 3D World, DK:TF, etc are platformers designed to appeal to the absolute broadest audience possible. You cannot compare the two because they are (or were) targeted towards different audiences, so your argument is misguided.Β

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 16:31:45 +0000 UTC]

OK then, then why does everyone consider MOTHER 3 better than it's prequels but not Paper Mario Color Splash despite both games being published by the same Company?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 16:42:12 +0000 UTC]

...I really don't know what to say to you. Mother 3 built upon and improved what Mother 1 and Mother 2 already established, both in gameplay and story. It was made with the same love and care as its predecessors. Sticker Star, Paper Jam, and Color Splash whitewashed, casualized, and stripped down their predecessors formula and provided lowest-common-denominator games that were shells of what had come before (we don't know what Color Splash will be like, but from what they have shown, Nintendo obviously is continuing with this trend). I really can't see how you are missing the point of your own argument so greatly. It has NOTHING to do with what company develops the game. Different teams exist within companies, so that part of your argument falls flat as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 17:25:19 +0000 UTC]

But I heard that in Japan, MOTHER 3 was the most hated game in the series, implying that countries outside of Japan just call MOTHER 3 the best because of the fact that Nintendo published it, dispite not even playing it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 17:31:58 +0000 UTC]

We are not talking about Mother 3 right now. You are going off topic. All I'm saying it that RPGs require interesting, varied characters, interesting compelling stories, and enjoyable gameplay. Specifically Paper Mario. That is why people do not like Sticker Star or Paper Jam, and why people are so nervous about Color Splash. I could give a shit about wether or not people liked Mother 3's story, but one thing it does (that the new Paper Mario games do not) is abide by the same formula that made its predecessors great and enjoyable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 17:40:11 +0000 UTC]

I see what your trying to say. What do you think Paper Mario Color Splash would be like if it we're created by a different company like Monolift Software?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 17:46:49 +0000 UTC]

I've never played a Monolift game, so I don't know. But again, if a different company/team were to take on a series, they need to look at what made the previous games great and what fans actually want from a sequel, rather than what appeals to a casual/broader audience. Nintendo took a risk with The Thousand Year Door and it paid off, but now they are so afraid of change and creating new things, it's hurting them in the eyes of their hardcore audience. For god sake, they released 4 of the same game basically with the New Super Mario series, and it really did nothing for them besides meaningless sales numbers. I played NSMB U once and got bored instantly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 17:50:33 +0000 UTC]

So do you think New Super Mario Bros. is still better than Sunshine beacause of the Koopalings actually playing a role in those games. Also with new Nintendo president think Nintendo will go uphill?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 18:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Nooooo, Sunshine is a much better game than the NSMB series, and I'd even go as far as to say better than the 3D World/Land series. They cannot keep my interest, and have no replay value. And they treat the Koopalings like throw-away characters, so it doesn't really apply.
It's hard to say about Kimishima since nothing has really happened that has redeemed the company yet.

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2017-01-14 02:11:48 +0000 UTC]

Just remembered you saying Mario is going downhill when I saw the trailer and seeing Mario going back to the SM64 roots in odyssey, I'd imagine the possible Paper Mario game on the Switch going back to it's roots complete with new characters and Toad designs as a love letter to Paper Mario fans, don't you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2017-01-14 02:39:06 +0000 UTC]

I think it's more or less confirmed by the developers of Color Splash that Paper Mario will never go back to the original play style, and that they'll leave the RPG format to the Mario & Luigi games. Unless major changes and decisions happen behind closed doors, we probably won't even be getting a Paper Mario game.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2017-01-14 03:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Well Nintendo does seem to be listening to fans by making SMO more like 64 and Sunshine rather than 3d land/world so that could be a sign they might change their minds.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2017-01-14 03:15:30 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2017-01-18 02:04:40 +0000 UTC]

The new npcs in SMO seem like they should have been the ones to appear in Color Splash, so if Paper Mario does go back to it's roots in the next game, think one of it's parteners would be a realistic human?

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2017-01-18 23:54:22 +0000 UTC]

Ok but how about they base it off some other new species in Super Mario Odyssey?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 18:15:20 +0000 UTC]

Though you do remember back when Bowser Jr. Debuted how much people made petitions to get the Koopalings back? So if their we're a new Mario TV Show do you think the Koopalings should have a role in it? And also which do you think does a better job at recycling content, New Super Mario Bros. or Sonic Generations?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 18:22:38 +0000 UTC]

I really don't have an opinion on any of the questions you just asked.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToxicIsland In reply to ShadowLifeman [2016-04-18 18:24:28 +0000 UTC]

Look I'm just making sure Nintendo still has the potential to create new TV shows of their games that are better than the ones DiC made.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowLifeman In reply to ToxicIsland [2016-04-18 18:27:39 +0000 UTC]

Not really sure what that had to do with having new or interesting characters in their video games though. You act like they can't be exclusive from each other, or that they need to sacrifice progressive storytelling to have good gameplay. That's why I said that was a very shallow way of thinking.
