It is possible to do the plastic mold over a statue. I had one years ago and I wish I had not gotten rid of it. It was a mother and baby dragon. Now I can't find it for sale anywhere to get it again.

I think you easily could with resin or something similar. That'd be awesome if you could somehow get a hold of amber to set it in, make it all Jurassic Park looking.

You could get a dragon statue, or make one yourself from polymer clay. Then you could use a mold and fill it with resin. There are so many tutorials on youtube that can help you with this. The most difficult part would probably be finding/making the mold for the resin.
