Description Ever imagined how a giraffe deerΒ would be? Well, meet Arvernoceros verestchagini!Β This species of Cervine deer was found in Early Pleistocene sites from Eastern Europe (Moldova, Greece, Russia). The remains comprise of an almost complete antler, some cranial fragments and metacarpals, which allow for a quite impressive size estimate of 700 kg! That basically makes it one of the largest species to ever exist. Not only that, but the very long limbs indicate similar proportion to some extinct giraffids. This could possibly mean that Arvernoceros verestchagini was a high browser that occupied a similar niche to giraffes.
