Most of the Generation 1 monsters are pretty bland compared to now, but they did have personality - especially Gengar. Compared to what most people expect from a ghost, it is a surprisingly creepy creature. The ragged sketchiness helps emphasize that.

I don't have specific favorite Pocket Monster; I tend to like them all. But Gengar would probably be the one I'd pick if I had to choose one. A very tough mon, and cool in a trickster-ish way. I'm hoping to evolve my Gastly in Platinum into one someday.
