Description Daphne, daughter of Gea, changed into a tree to escape from Apollo's love.

Story:

Apollo is also well known for his big mistake in mocking a fellow god. One day he made fun of Eros, saying he had no archery skill and was too small to have much significance. Eros then shot an arrow at Apollo, making him infatuated with the sea nymph Daphne. He then shot another arrow at Daphne which made her unable to love anyone. Apollo continuously persued Daphne until she finally called for help from a river god and she was changed into a laural tree before Apollo could get to her. This is why the laurel is his sacred tree.

hey beautiful & it's amazing you know the real legend of Daphne and Apollo... but one she was a dryad not a sea nymph and two she called to her mother Gea (her father didn't have those abilities) ^^

Interesting effect.. turning into a tree. I love old myth stories, and you've portrayed this one very well. Down to the detail of skin-mottling as flesh becomes bark on her stomach. The fog effect is a nice touch. The trees aren't too realistic, but it works well for this piece and was probably intentional. XD

Really nice job.

great concept! well done on the blending between the torso and trunk.

i would have used much whispier twigs on the branch that overlaps her... but that's just me and it hardly detracts from the fantastic end result.

Awesome!!! Actually the image didn't make me think of Daphne...it reminded me more of the story of Myrrah...who was put under a spell by Aphrodite because she offended her. The spell forced her to love her father and she lept with him a few nights before he figured out it was her...she then ran away and prayed the gods to change her. So Ceres takes pity on her and turns her into a tree.

Oh this is so gorgeous and well executed. I thought it was an airbrush or digital painting at first, not a photomanipulation. (meaning, it's put together excellent) I love Greek Myth. I'm taking a class on it now. I recently just did a piece on Eros. Anyway..the colors are beautiful, the pose is lovely, it goes well with the story. I looooove it. Very nice!!!! I wish I had something as constructive criticism to say other than just going on about how great it is. :3 The hair is a bit awkward looking and the roots kind of end abruptly on her waist, but it's so wonderful otherwise! Awesome. Definitely deserving of a DD. Congrats!
