Sweet macro, do you have info on your macro set up?

Thank you, this was taken with the Canon 600D, fitted with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens extended with Kenko Extension tubes (not sure by how much, it was a while ago). The use of a diffused Canon 580EX II Speedlite enabled me to use an aperture of F/11 (I find F/11 to be this lenses sweet spot). Hope this helps

I was mostly looking for the flash set up, specifically the way you diffuse?
I've been having an issue as well with the sharpness of my images, not sure if it is a camera thing. When I zoom in all the way it tends to lose a bit of detail, even at 11-13 aperture at 1/200 with a flash which confuses me!
Thanks for responding so quickly

As for my flash set-up, I use either a Sto-Fen diffuser or a simple cloth diffuser which just pulls over the flash head. I do find that you often need to check that the flash is giving you the correct exposure and I have to adjust it from the auto settings. Incorrect exposure can give very poor image quality.
Another thing to check is your F-stop. Stopping down gives you a greater depth of field but after a certain point the image will begin to deteriorate (this is due to diffraction, which will reduce sharpness, creating a soft image).
For my 100mm lens I find F/11 to be the sharpest, after that the image becomes very soft.

The yes looks weird up close, but I just looove the fur (yah, butterflies have fur O_O) and the scales that are visible on the wings.

Ah, I see!
Yes, I thought there must be something wrong when I first started getting shots like this. They're not like you expect from the normal compound eyes
