Description
Special thanks to for introducing me to this series. It's a shame that "The Dreamstone" never aired in the United States, I would've loved watching it as a kid. Oh well, at leased there's YouTube. This here is Rufus, a Noop, who works with the Dream Master to protect the Dreamstone from Zordrak, Lord of Nightmares. Despite best efforts, Rufus and his best friend Amberley thwart all of his attempts. Rufus is a fun-loving character who enjoys daydreaming. I like him a lot and I plan to draw Amberley next.
He was surprisingly easy and fun to draw. I took my time but I was pleased with the end results.

Looks a lot like the show's style. Extra points for doing his earlier Jupp-based design from Season One.

There was a single video release put out by Fisher-Price, other then that, that's all the US got of The Dreamstone, as the US weren't too big on imports from other countries back then.

Not many UK/European cartoons aired in the States, the only ones that really became famous over there was Dangermouse and Count Duckula by Cosgrove Hall, other then those that's about it.

The US also seems to like a lot Aardman stuff such as Wallace and Gromit, as well as some pre school shows such as Thomas and Friends (albeit with a few of them getting dubbed over and 'Americanized').
The staff of many such shows sometimes have conflicts with their popularity in the US due to pleas to tone down their British culture so it translates better.

That's defenately one reason for it, but then America hardly imports shows from most countries back in the day, due to they having the budget and talent to create cartoons themselves, in America this is taken for granted, while it's more of a rarity to have a large number of cartoons produced in other countries like the UK, our cartoon output was certainly less then the USA.

At the time a few cartoons were being brought over from Japan, but not as much as the number America gets now, back then America produced a lot of their own work. I have seen Trap Door when I was younger.

The other reason for having little to no imports was because America was capable of financing a lot of animated programmes themselves.
