Description 11/21/08 - Joshua Tree (Infrared), Joshua Tree National Park, California

The Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) is a monocotyledonous tree native to southwestern North America, in the states of California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada. Confined mostly to the Mojave Desert between 400-1,800 m (2,000-6,000 feet), they thrive in the open grasslands of Queen Valley and Lost Horse Valley in Joshua Tree National Park.

According to legend, Mormon pioneers considered the limbs of the Joshua trees to resemble the upstretched arms of Joshua leading them to the promised land.

Absolutely brilliant picture. I'm glad you went back to get it. Thanks for the info on the trees too; I've never heard of them before! Don't be thinking they have these in England

Thank ya Love! None in England I'm afraid. They are pretty much native to southwestern North America (California, Arizona, Utah and Nevada). Confined mostly to the Mojave Desert.

Maybe I should introduce them over here? Newquay is fairly sandy; they'd like it there!

Wicked, send over some bubsy saplings or some seeds and I'll get straight to it! Actually better not just in case they take over and kill all of our wildlife!

I did that on 87 from Winslow to Phoenix and at night nonetheless...I tried to turn on the highbeams when they were already on. I've never been in such darkness and on winding desert roads with the possiblity of seeing elk. Back to JT, looks like the roads may have been resurfaced since you took your detour. I arrived via I10 and got halfway into the park and did not see one joshua tree! Ranger told me they were all on the other side. The next day I went from Indio and up 62. Glad that I went but doubtful I will re-visit. When I was stationed in San Diego in the mid 1980's, we used to refer to it as 29 Stumps. Probably still referred to as that.

Joshua trees are the fucking bomb.

So are dragon blood trees, which you should google if you've never seen. They're fucking trippy.

And I need to stop fucking cursing before I go teach those godsdamned kids next semester. Fuck.

You assholes had better behave or I will rip off your friggin' head and shit down your neck. So if you jerkoffs don't have anymore questions, I'll start to teach you little bastards something. Yep! I do work in a greenhouse over the summer, so I get to see all kinds of weird foliage...

At least I'm teaching high school where I'd have a chance of squeezing by with that...do that in K-5 and the kids will go whining to the principal like obscenity is a bad thing.

No...tho we have do have all kinds of salvia...which, supposedly, if you smoke rips your soul out of your body...or so I'm told.

rjcarroll In reply to krystletwystd [2008-11-29 02:36:16 +0000 UTC]

As you know I have have gotten rid of so much, however, I will hang on to my soul. Maybe that is the explanation for all of the souless idiots I have come across. I doubt that to be true, but I'd belive that smoking it would cause the user to ask incredibly stupid questions when the answer is so blatently displyed right in front of their eyes. Just outta curiosity, whatta ya gimme for the soul?

*lol* Well recently my models would argue that I owe them various pieces of my soul for putting them through the cold, dirty and sometimes rusty eperiences that they've gone through at Letchworth. But if we look at a much larger scale, I would say that my art owns my soul, so that depending on the size of the piece you'd like, it's gonna cost quite a pretty penny. I refuse to sell my work cheap, specifically because of the whole soul-owning thing. Even if it's a print of a digital image, there's a fraction of my soul in it, and I'd like to think that's worth something.
And I think it wouldn't be too brash of me to assume similarly for yourself.
Though money, I hear, is essentially a worthless bit of nothing to fill in the hole where part of a soul has once taken residence.

Well..you can always say you'd never ask them to do what you wouldn't do, then show them the photos we did in the snow and keep every morsal of your soul!
I've done ok on very little money my whole life. And, no not brash at all!

krystletwystd In reply to rjcarroll [2008-12-02 03:11:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh no...they know. They've seen the pictures and they're pretty confident in the fact that I'm out of my mind and therefore my views can't be weighed on the same scale as theirs.

I'm prolly gonna have to do okay on very little money myself. So I'm glad to know it's do-able.
