this is a great shot. although it makes me rather sad... btw, i saw all the flak (sp?) you were getting about not taking the kitten home and about how they hated that you took a picture of an unhealthy-looking kitten. for one, we can't just pick up animals whenever we durned-well please. and two, ART IS NOT ALL ABOUT BEAUTY. i'm not saying that this isn't a beautiful shot (which it is

ya know, i agree with laurelindorenae above me, taking a pic and just leave it there and be all happy about it here with alot of smilies feels like the totally wrong thing to do, why not take it to a animal rescue shelter or something if you couldnt take it home?
the whole thing is just kinda like that famous pic with the dying african kid and the vulture.

Animal shelters often put them to sleep because, frankly, there are thousands of stray cats every year, and only a handful of families who want them.
Kittens' survival rates INCREASE when they are left with their mother, whether it be outdoor or indoor, and judging by this guy's bright eyes and round belly, momma was keeping him well-fed.
As for the African child, he was so far gone that there was likely not much to be done. The photographer had strict orders not to touch or interfere with any of the people of that village. He was there to photograph, not attempt mediocre rescues on starving children.
Don't be so quick to judge.

i would have tried to atleast put it off the road, since it wasnt Africa and the poster wasnt on a mission to take pics of dying kids.

I'm not throwing a hissy fit. I'm correcting your mistakes since you decided to call this guy out on something unimportant. In another comment he says he moved it of the road.
No, the photographer wasn't on a mission to photograph dying children, exactly, just to photograph in general. He had specific orders not to interfere, like I said. You can never say you wouldn't make the same decision to walk away unless it happens to you.

I really hope you did something more than take a photo and leave... that kitten was obviously infested with fleas and had a belly swollen with worms. It clearly needed help. Loneliness was not it's main problem. While the image, compositionally, is well photographed, I cannot say it's a decent piece of artwork. It makes me rather sick.

There are thousands of stray kittens, and they can't all be saved. Almost all kittens go through worms and fleas, and as long as momma cat was still caring for him (which I'd bet she was), his chances of survival are relatively good.

i didn't take him home .. i just touch his body and hug a little bit and then i placed him in to the saver place [he was in the middle of the street. its dangerous if there's a motorcycle passing by]
