These are all so cute! If I had to choose, I think the second from the right is my favorite. I like how simple and symmetrical it is

Oh thank you very much!
The chosen Totoro was the first, but I hope I can make something nice with the other ones...

I really like RenOokami's advice, it's a good idea to read that.
Personally I'd love to have the first and second as a t-shirt, the first one because it's simple, the second one because it's very beautiful. I do think I'll lean towards the first one though, as it's a lot simpler and less busy on a t-shirt.
But gorgeous work, I am a HUGE fan of My Neighbour Totoro, so I'd be interested in buying any of these shirts if they were on sale!

Both are great and can touch different persons for different reasons:
The 3rd one (in the middle) is the classic scene you can't avoid to like when you see it, but this also mean that many artists already did it. The 1st and 4rt designs are the more "simple" and appropriate for a T-shirt design. The last one is fun, not the one I'll choose, but probably the one on what I'll react the most if i see someone wearing it on the street. The second is beautiful, but it's harder to visualise it integrated. However, with appropriate combinaison of design and T-shirt color, it can be great as well.
So, 1 and 5 for any types of fan; 5 for the humourisic/fun side; 2 and 3 for fans who prefer wearing a piece of art as T-shirt.

You're welcome.
So the 1st one was chosen ? It sure is the best for this type of appliction because of the flow of the picture. Everything seems in movement, and since a T-shirt's front will be seen moving (or at least weared on someone walking toward you) that's a big plus for the visual effect. (Now that I look at the designs again, the 1st one really is the only one what move and seems dynamic, so this could also influence the choice)
If you considere most T-shirt designs, the front is a dynamic picture and/or a typo (for the reason said abrove), and the back is often larger and like your 2nd or 3rd picture because pepole wear jackets/backpack, so the back will only be visible once they sit in a bar or at home, what give the oportunity to show a "non-moving" picture there.
It can seems silly, but having in mind the situations the final product will be used is really important when creating a design to integrate, because something can seems beautiful on a media, but not be appropriate to other usages. So, Because of the square around it, the 4rt would be better on a mug design than the 1st. The idea of one with the 4rt on a side and 5ft on the other (since they're on the same subject) might be a good design.
About the 3rd scketch, every version of the scene have something unique and your is no exeption, so as long as you had fun drawing it that's all that matter. On another silly note, it could be wonderful in this kind of mug where a part of the picture appear only when it's hot. There's years I havn't seen this type of mugs around but here's the idea:
Pepole wait the water to boil like anyone would wait the bus, alone and counting each seconds, so the character alone would be the "cold" state. It would create the parallel of inviting Totoro to the table when the smell of hot coffe/tea's water hit the mug. This would be a unique twist on the design that I don't think many artists already did, and what always bring a smile when pepole see it. ^^

About the mug, here's the two litteral versions for workers who need to "recharge their batteries with coffee" xD

As you see, it is basically two pictures one of top of the other, with one what becomes visible and then overlap the other when the mug is hot. Search for "Thermosensitive ceramic mug" to see more applications. There's a lot of gamer oriented ones, and more classic art too, but I warn you, there were also quite a brunch of "humouristic nsfw" made back when these mugs were common in the 90's. ^^"
Not to glorify this kind of application, but the overlapping image what give the illusion of something disappearing was an original twist. In a sfw gamer application, it can become something like: "Sonic is surronded by the chaos emeralds, then the overlapping image is Supersonic and dots of the same color than the background over the emeralds to make them disappear."
I hope these mugs you'll find in your search will inspire you to try new art applications, even just for the fun of it.
