Description
I know posting pages is not really popular but ... i do it anyway. This here is an ashcan i produced for madman, NY based, Jesse Destasio [link] who merged with his customizing powers two nerdy cool toylines into one - Mattel's late 80ies GUTS! [link] and now growing popular figure line GLYOS [link] - and he asked me to do a headercard for his little customs, but me - fully drugged by watching old episodes of G.I.Joe and also having found the full collection of G.I.Joe comics of Marvel online has said i draw him a little comic. 2 or 3 days later - voila!
Hope you enjoy, cheesy pants!
PS: At NYCC we join forces with Jesse Destasio & the swell fine chums of Onell Design so you'll find us at either booth in the small press area

100% RAD!
I really like the cut out header on page one, really strong design. Next up on the chopping block, fully horizontal page layouts. X-Force style.
Can't wait for NYC!!

Halftones it is called. and it's just photoshop
my spanish CS1 has it by filtro > pixelizar > semitono de color
works best in "escala de gris" modo or CMYK.
There u go. All my tricks.

Tricks in spanish! yeepee, now we understand each other, dear Ralph
Well, i I thought it was the old-school sticky halftone pattern, which is hard to find, here at least.
( I can't belive you work on CS1...hahaa)

I got some of the sticky stuff left, but they aborted it in the shops - art stores don't carry it any more - maybe some manga merchandise do still produce them.
I do work with PS 7 all day. The CS line is always crashing on my computer so i always go safe.

This is what it would look like if G.I. Joe were drawn by old Metal Hurlant artists or if it had been published in very early Love & Rockets issues. Or more accurately, this is what it looks like when the adventures of bizarre custom toys are drawn by you, because every aspect of this is unique.

I always made up stories for my toys. I guess this just the conclusion of it I tried also to sport a look of Rob Liefeldness to get a bit more anger of a 13 year old in this.

Yeah, alright, but I don't think you can really stoop to total Rob Liefeldness.

the original is B&W. I just dunked in the file some of the old paper so it's a bit more charming to look at on the monitor.
