Description I created this painting during my stay up north. It was done from a photo that I took from the top of "The Crack" A geological feature in the park. Basically, its a massive quartzite crevice and from the top there are some spectacular vistas to be seen.

This year, the Friends of Killarney held the first La Cloche Art Show (this is likely to become an annual event). I decided to enter this painting in the show. To my surprise it sold within the first hour. Not only that, it was the first painting of the show to be sold. So, this is officially the first painting I've ever sold in my life and I'm extremely proud of it!

Awesome, I reconized The Crack as soon as I saw it! Stunning painting, I love your technique. Were you at the art show held in the public school this year?

Thank you! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the art show this year. My cousin was getting married that weekend. I've attended in previous years, though.

Thanks so much! Turns out it was bought by someone I'd never met and given as a gift to someone I work with. LOL!

Thank you! Yes, I too am quite happy with those rocks. I took the colours I could see in my photo and tried to push them to emphasize the luminous, almost opaquely-translucent (talk about an oxymoron) quality of solid quartzite cliffs. And I think it worked quite well.

Beautiful work. I would have bought it too! What size did you paint it?

It's about 15" X 20". Not that big, but still sizeable. Thanks for the compliment and the fav!

The picture is very beautiful, I like it a lot. None wonders you sold it!
I have a question to you if you permit that. Are acrilics used for painting on paper? I want to make a present to a fried of mine, and I am interested if they are not too difficult to be used as she's never painted with them.

Qiu-Ling In reply to Marzipana [2006-09-16 05:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yep, acrylics can be used on paper, but it does need to be pretty strong paper. Anything to thin will warp or rip.

It's so lovely! It has this way of appearing strong, but peaceful at the same time.
