Description
Absolutely exhausted. Will fill in descriptions later.Edit: Ok, now that I've had some sleep...
This is the illustration that I created for the "Process" show, hosted by the Unit E gallery on Santa Fe in Denver for the month of May. It depicts a scene out of Alexa's story, where she is traveling with an Anchortop Motor Cavalry company. After years of being displaced from her home, she is finally on her way back to the mountain foothills of Calur's northern borders, eager to find the man responsible for the razing of her home town and to help push the Confederates out of the Vanaen capital of Pevlidhe.
In this scene, the Anchortop tanks arrive at a sacked Reiden village, raided just days ago. The lead tank's driver, Vashili, comforts Alexa before they move on, too late to help.

I got a image in my sci-fi book. When the Terran-Galactic Alliance Space Marines Division Bravo and The Hell on Wheels Tank Division and the Big Red One came across a village on the Planet of New Berlin fighting the Bier Empire.

Do the humans just not notice the animal-person-things?Β
This really looks like world war 2 to me
And in world war 2 segregation and nazis were things.
Humans couldn't handle being different colors.
How could they handle entirely different species?

This has nothing to do with WWII, it's a fictional world of my own creation. the cultural background these soliders come from has a mixed society with a long history of cooperation between species.

The emotion shown here is simply amazing, my words cannot describe how deeply this hits me.
I certainly hope whoever did this gets what they deserve, however your story goes.

Something tells me they will be in no mood to take prisoners later on.
Collateral damage is inevitable in war. But to deliberately kill unarmed civilians with no military assets anywhere in sight crosses a line that puts you on par with a wild animal.

I'm sorry to say no; I haven't yet had the chance to finish the story this is based on yet, let alone translate it!

this is not ordinarily a subject that would interest me - i tend to be drawn to more "serene" subjects in art, but your work on this is so outstanding that I just had to fav it.

Ok, I kinda have to say this since I am putting this in my fav folder. I ended up here from you "Human Militaries" deviant. Now I will admit that I am not a fan of anthropomorphic artwork, but this piece is something that caught me off guard. The body language and just simple expressions bring out such emotion that it gives me a cold shiver, I can truly feel for the characters. The vehicles and the background are so well done that I can see a sense of realism along with all the characters themselves. Its a powerful piece worth its praise.Β

Thank you! I'm glad to see it's gotten some attention outside of the usual anthropomorphic fans ^^

In time, I definitely will! It's an important vehicle, not just for Koshya/Anchortop, but as a base for many other derivatives.
Actually, I was working on some of those derivative designs in between working on this, I should get around to finishing them...

Thank you so much ^^
It was a huge step for me, to be able to create such a developed illustration for my world; I have done so much planning and world-building, but very little in the way of artwork like this. I hope to do much more in the future, and actually make use of this world I've built over many years

Originally, that soldier was going to be human, but I decided to make them a Reiden as well. This helped accomplish two things; it shows that the Anchortop army is bi-racial*, and through the connection of race it brings an additional angle of empathy to the scene. While Alexa is grieving for her own people, the soldier feels vicarious empathy for the villagers, who aren't of the same nation, but are still Reiden nonetheless.
*Anchortop as a nation is the coming-together of the struggling human colonists from Koshya, and the sparse native population of Reiden tribes in that area. Both Humans and Reiden have equal stake in their nation's politics and military.
Thank you for the comment ^^

Stunning work, great use of angle and perspective to put into a scene that shows a lot of emotion.
Also a wonderful use of colours and shading to give a very natural look to details. Definitely going in my list of favourites!
