Okay, so I saw Prometheus on opening night, and again last week. Loved every minute of it.A lot of people hated it, and I don't quite understand why. While the movie was rife with some average performances(what movie isn't though?), it had a couple of superb performances, notably Fassbender and Rapace.
The film was one big fanservice to fans of the original Alien, and those curious about the space jockey and its possible motives. The movie answered every question well, and left a bunch of new ones, which I appreciate a lot. But that praise is one of the biggest sources of critique against this film. To me, a film that answers all of your questions just undermines your intelligence. So the first film in decades to treat it's audience with intelligence is scorned, which has a lot to say about people nowadays.
The engineers were perfect. Their designs were truly disturbing and unsettling(in a good way), due to their complete likeness of being a living breathing renaissance sculpture.
So yeah, I loved it. In the Alien series, I would say it's right on par with the original, and they compliment each other well. I liked it much better than Aliens, and obviously better than all of the crap that followed it.

Beautiful Engineer there! I agree that the movie was amazing, and it definitely answered at least some questions about the space jockeys and how the xenomorphs came to be.

I agree with most of what you say about the movie and how some people are critisizing it. I also loved the look of the engineers and find it silly that a lot of so called fans of Alien are angry with the idea that they are just "men" beneath their suits. I for one love that idea, it adds a whole new twist to them and makes them more than just some other alien race, I always thought that the space jockey in the original Alien looked more like a bio-mechanical space suit than a skeleton anyway. And yes, Fassbender's performance was great, probably the greatest portrayal of an artificial human's personality ever, perhaps with the exception of the character of Roy Batty from Bladerunner. The only main problem I had with the movie was the ending, I just always find it a little silly when humans are able to control a super advanced space ship, and also how it seems to require a sequel (which I sort of doubt will get made), but that's just me. Overall Prometheus was an excellent film.
I was thinking of drawing an Engineer sometime too, maybe the one at the end.

It's funny, following the movie's news, I was a bit weary when they said that the original design was a suit. But I definitely like them better that way now.
Yeah, but Shaw did have David with her to help I guess.
I'm hopeful they a sequel will happen. I dont think any movies from the past decade have sparked this much conversation.

Although it was probably the most disturbing movie I've ever seen, it was pretty awesome. I don't understand why people hate it either.

I really like your idea of the engineers as living renaissance sculptures. I thought it was a good movie but if anything had too much exposition. There were definitely great performances but they made the bad ones seem stupid or unnecessary. Overall though much better than most of the "Alien" movies out there, I agree that some of the criticism is silly.

Yeah, most of the criticism I see is based on the illogical behavior of some of the characters or scenes, which is brutal nitpicking to me.
Yeah, I agree with you there. David and Shaw were great, but they made characters like Charlie(Logan Marshall Green) or Vickers(Theron) seem even worse than they actually were. Charlie was easily the most annoying character in the film, so I'm rather glad they did away with him.

Totally agree. Prometheus was a great prequel that the series needed. All of the non-Ridley Scott stuff was fun, but not as great.

I'd have to say: The Party(1969)-stupid Peter Sellers comedy, Planet Terror- horrible over the top stupid film that wasn't self-aware, and AVP:R for it's soap-opera treatment of the Alien and Predator franchise.
I have others that I hated a lot, mostly due to them being horribly overrated, like Avatar and The Deer Hunter.

It was sort of an odd mix of being self-aware and not. It was just too stupid for my tastes, too many useless characters, and it's almost confusing to figure out in a way.
Death Proof was better than Planet Terror, but still not that great.
