Description After spending so long on this... I wish it had turned out better.
Edit: Woah! Glad people like it so much.

I love sharks-- and Frilled Sharks remind me of little wrinkled old men. And they always look so happy. As if they're just so thrilled to be swimming around in the ocean. They're deep sea sharks.

Ink.

What a captivating blue eye!

I really like the texture, and can see that it took a long time. Which parts are you unsatisfied with yourself?

Thanks! I dunno, I guess I'm always a little unsatisfied with my own stuff.

Oh my goodness SO MUCH STIPPLING
HOW DO YOU HAVE THE PATIENCE

I stippled a dragon once, years and years ago. I got 92% finished with it and gave up.

I adore this, but I think you should add just a tad bit more blue in there somewhere to compliment his eye...

Yeah... it would be good to have the blue somewhere else too, but I like the single pop of colour. Perhaps the problem is that the colour isn't a very good colour with enough depth. Should have picked a different blue. It's kind of a clunky shade of blue.

A different blue like a deep royal, maybe? It would probably work more nicely with a deeper blue. Not that it doesn't work already. XD But... y'know.

Yeah. I was worried that kind of blue would be too dark... ah well.

Woahhhh. That is some intense pointillism! This looks great...it's gorgeously composed, and that background is especially nice/interesting looking because there aren't any lines.

I'd never heard of this kind of shark before. It's really cute! Such a happy lil' granpappy. We all should be like frilled sharks and take more pleasure in our everyday lives.

PhantomSeptember In reply to EccentriKing [2012-08-24 12:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Is the shark less nice/intersting because it does have lines? I had a hard time with it, because if it was just stippling (apparently pointilism only refers to paintings + colour) it wouldn't have very much contrast.

*will need to educate you on all the sharks now* "I can show you the woooorld. Shining, shimmering sleeendor."

EccentriKing In reply to PhantomSeptember [2012-08-28 02:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Ohhh, that's odd. I'd always thought it was the other way around...stippling referring to paintings, and pointillism referring to drawings. X'D Ah well.

Nah, you've got it perfect; the shark looks great with the lines because they bring more attention to it and make it pop out.

ALL the sharks! 'A whole new wooooorld...' *pictures us riding on a magic nautical carpet through shark-infested waters*

Nope, I went and made sure before saying so. Stippling is for drawings. Pointillism for paintings.

Yay! 8D

His eyes make it look like the reason he's smiling is to lure fish into a false sense of security before he eats them! XD
