Description

'Upon the very Eve of Midsummer, when the sky was blue as sapphire and white stars opened in the East, but the West was still golden and the air was cool and fragrant, the riders came down the North-way to the gates of Minas Tirith ... and last came Master Elrond, mighty among Elves and Men, bearing the sceptre of Annúminas, and beside him upon a grey palfrey rode Arwen his daughter, Evenstar of her people.
And Frodo when he saw her come glimmering in the evening, with stars on her brow and a sweet fragrance about her, was moved with great wonder, and he said to Gandalf: 'At last I understand why we have waited! This is the ending. Now not day only shall be beloved, but night too shall be beautiful and blessed and all its fear pass away!''

I cannot believe you took the time to put in all those fabric wrinkles and details in the hair and... whatever that thing is hanging from her sleeve. All over this picture I see details and time and care---wonderful job

Again, my sincere thanks. The enjoyment is in the detail (as well as the frustration and repetitiveness too!)

Yes, that is pretty much all of that passage in a single image, standing by to watch the procession and be awestruck at the implication of the future.

Why is this one not available as a print on red bubble? I was looking yesterday.

I think you made a wise decision to have the option of ordering photo prints in addition to the fine art print. Has anyone ordered the tights? I'm just curious. If so, I'd like to see the photos of someone wearing them?

peet In reply to aud [2015-05-06 00:37:43 +0000 UTC]

Haha, actually you looked about 24 hours too early then, as I just put this one up today on Redbubble - here you go: www.redbubble.com/people/pxpri…

Can't say anyone has as of yet. I'm sure there're examples of people wearing leggings/tights on Redbubble elsewhere. I'll have to check and get back to you on that sometime. Not now though as it's 1.30 am and way past bed time

But I placed my order yesterday.

Not, that I would personally order the tights it just seemed kinda 'differen't. But do follow up on this!

Oops, I'm sorry Aud! If you're happy with the others, I guess you can always come back for this one at some later stage. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of Redbubble tights on a model. Ah! Maybe you can purchase Midsummer's Eve in tights yourself, and pose for us I jest ... or do I ...?

aud In reply to peet [2015-05-18 20:50:49 +0000 UTC]

To be honest I don't have 'model' worthy legs! lol..
Actually, I'm shocked the pearl photo paper is awesome. It makes your paintings sparkle (it really enhances the brush work). I'm glad you had soo many options in your shop.

I'm thrilled you're happy with the final pieces, and that you think it makes my paintings look good. I've not actually purchased my own work from Redbubble, so I'm not sure what the outcome is like - I have done with Deviantart a couple of times, and I was fairly happy with them. But it'd be nice to compare if possible ...

Say, you wouldn't be able to do me a huge favour would you? Would it be possible to, rather than modelling your legs, take a few photos of these prints? Only if you have the time of course, and there's no obligation. I was just thinking it'd be nice for me to 'promo' them on my FB page at some point, and sometimes it helps when people can see the physical product. No worries though if this is a problem for you Aud - you've done more than enough in the first place to support me. Thanks again!

No problem, I can take a few photos of the prints.  I just have to figure the best way to present it with the pearl quality.

Right now I have to get a few projects done-- close out a photoshoot and a photo manip. But this project will be on my to-do list.

The colors and composition remind me of a medievel christian style painting. I can't think of a specific painter but I can definately see the elements there. That's really cool and I think you pulled it off well in how you were able to make it your own.

peet In reply to aud [2015-02-10 00:16:40 +0000 UTC]

Interesting, as I don't think I was necessarily going for that, though I can see the resemblance and don't mind it all. Also, I'm well into my Pre-Raphaelites, so that Christian medievalism your refer to is spot on Thanks!

I like the lovely patterns, particularly the one in the middle. This is a striking painting and it seems that Arwen is looking out of the scene, through the realms, at me.

This is a great comment to read, and one that tells me that I've done my job as an illustrator. I want there to be a connection between the subject and the viewer, and it seems that I've succeeded in this case. Thanks so much for letting me know

Ironically as I was reminded of medieval frescoes, it is very beautiful, I like that she looks at us, it is an educated decision), a little sad that the shot misses her horse's head, but may well have been intended), what size you usually draw very interesting?

peet In reply to kimberly80 [2015-01-06 22:28:54 +0000 UTC]

As ever, thank you so much for commenting. I did begin painting the horse's head, or rather a part of it, and whilst it wasn't too bad there was something 'off' with it. So I decided to leave it out, and this meant that in terms of composition, Arwen was more central than before, so I think it worked out for best in any case.

The vast majority of my paintings are, or are based on, the A3 format. But as you can probably tell, many of my works are of different shapes and sizes. In other words, I have no set formula, and on occasion I have even fitted three seperate paintings on one A3 canvas, usually when a sketch metamorphoses into a scene. I know this is not very conventional, but I'm not bothered. There are of course others that are deliberately A4, such as Journey to the HavensThe White Rider  and Elwing Bearing the Silmaril  And there are even some extremely small paintings, or miniatures, in the gallery, A5 or smaller, such as RohanShadowfax and Gandalf Reunited  and Turin's first sight of the Eldar . Sometimes it's speed I'm after, and yet still a bit of detail. A small canvas is perfect for me for that reason.

Thank you for the detailed response, I asked about the size, because that works in very much detail and in large format they would have to draw for a long time, on the other hand traced all on a small format, too laborious task ... Shadowfax and Gandalf suddenly a little) but very cool
