I'm not the best person to tell you that because it's my mother language.
I grew up listening to it, therefore had no difficulties. But I can tell you this example: russian, romanian, bulgarian,... migrant workers here in around 1 year speak (and understand) portuguese at a very good level.
So I guess it can't be that hard to learn it. And if you already enjoy the sound (the culture?), it will be much easier.
