Are you using an ink pen? If so I know how you feel. Shading with those are never easy.
Other than that, these are cute. I like the one where Newt's using his own head for light.

Yes, I use ink pens for most, if not all of my drawings, mainly because they give higher opacity and it shows up better ^_^ But yeah, doing it in any lighter shade is difficult ;;-;;
