I like the illusion of depth and space created by the clouds in the distance.

you shouldn't limit yourself to just the photo. Why not try playing around with it by yourself? Try making the detail up. It's sometimes fun to just imagine what it looks like a draw it. I've had to do that sometimes when the photo lets me down. ^_^ But using photo resources is a major thing for me too.

It's more like, there's detail I know I could invent, but I think I'm pretty much bored with this painting already
This was a study in using oils for the first time more than anything else

lol okay ^_^ I've painted over several of my old paintings. X.x except for the ones that my parents keep that I wish I could burn because they are horrible.

Wow wowie wow wow! I don't know how you do these so well in traditional media...

Not to say that oils are easy to use, but they're surprisingly manageable compared to acrylics or other blendy-type media.
Try themmmm! They're a lot of fun

And they also smell good (for some people)
but they're also toxic (for everyone)

I have been wanting to try oils for a while. Now if I could go find some...

The school has the supplies; I'm sure you could ask to use them.
