Description
Sad I gotta sell this ): Finished version to this:Sai is way cooler than I give credit for. Gave it a go yesterday for about 90% of the work here (the other 10% being the simple bg, noise, lines, some glow effects done in PS.) I really like the program for super smooth blending and lines. PS is king imo when it comes to general painting for me atm due to its versatility with custom brushes beyond default settings (a thing I dunno if Sai has.) Sai has okay textured brushes, but can accept nice texture overlays which kinda makes up for it.

Hey if you don't mind me asking, how do you price your adoptables? I think it'd be fun to try and create some adopts, but seeing as I'm not fantastic at drawing or designing, how would suggest I go about this? Thanks, sorry if you get asked this a lot! Also, any tips for coming up with creative/ original designs?I imagine that's a kind of important part lol.

I think the best way to go about pricing designs is to go by your skill level, the time it took you to complete it, and the demand your work has/your reputation.
When I say "your skill level", I don't necessarily mean how well you draw vs. how well someone else draws. Someone can have a firm understanding in realistic anatomy, but their design work may be lacking. If you've been designing for a long time, your designs are going to look "nicer". They're going to make people want them, because you're practiced in creating them and it shows. They're going to be unique, and unique designs will sell.
You should also try to price your work/designs so that it's fair to you. A good rule of thumb is to try pricing them so that you're at least making minimum wage per hour. Where I live, that's about $7.25, so I want to make sure I'm at least making $7.25/hour. If I spend 3 hours working on a design, I should charge at least $21.75. The point of selling designs (and doing commissions!) is to make a profit. Spending 3 hours designing something and selling it for only $10 will leave you shortchanged.
Designs that sell for higher prices are generally done by people who have a larger reputation. This isn't always the case, sure, but it is for the majority of the time. I don't know if you know much about closed species, but that's a pretty good example of pricing vs. demand! Tatchit's work is the same way! They have a good reputation among the dA community, and their designs are in high demand because of it!
I'm positive I'm missing other points, but those are the biggest ones I can think of! ; o ;
Everyone prices their designs differently, and it can be a real hit-and-miss when you first start out. I'm still struggling myself! It can be discouraging, but it's important to remember that every successful creator started exactly where you're starting. If you're unsure, the best you can do is to just start trying.

You can make custom textured brushes for sai, but it's much more clunky than for PS. You have to use a template and mess around with your sai folder to get them to import properly, to my knowledge. I don't quite recall how to do it by hand, myself, as I've switched over from Sai, but there are tutorials for it around the web, and I believe in dA, as well ;v;;
