Description As with all my stuff I started out with a basic idea of what I wanted to do for this Manipulation. I wanted to make a simple Gothic type portrait but I thought it need just a bit more and the crown of thorns came to be. Then I was thinking you know many people tend to bury their pain deep inside and not show it.

So it dawned on me that this pic would be great to represent that state of being. Here is a girl that is in obvious pain but is hardly show it but in a tear.

Anyway this started out as a poorly lit photo. I was experimenting with some lighting setups in my make shift studio. I really should have reshot this but I started playing around with this pic in Photoshop and one thing lead to another and before you know it I was half way through lol. The eyes where so dark that I decided to generate some new ones in Photoshop and Iā€™m glad I did because I really like the way they came out. The hardest part of this Manip was getting the blood to look right on the cuts. Normally adding blood is easy when your dealing with color but in Black and White is was a little more difficult. Anything dripping looked to fake so I went with the crusted dry blood look. The tear was another difficult thing to look real too. I must had done it over 50 times and finally decided that what I have now look pretty good. Let me know what you think Good or Bad.

This is really great! Did you paint the crown of thorns or is it from a photo?

Thank you. To make the crown of thorns I took a picture of a ring of grape vines and the thorns where created in photoshop.

Thnak you so much for your comments. I made the crown by taking a photo of one of those grape vine wreathes that you can get from a garden center or a hobbey store. I shot it alone in front of a green screen so could easily seperate it from the background. I then fit it on her head using layer masks in Photoshop. I have a tutorial on that if you want to check it out. The thorns I created in Photoshop and all I did was to make a triangle, added a wood texture and did a little air brushing to to give it a sphereical look. I thing I then manipulated each one just a bit to match the position I was putting them in. The thorns was a pain in the butt. Hope this helps you out.

Looks just fine to me. Love how you did the eyes -- very expressionistic.

There is nothing to say except that this is pure perfection... If this does not make it to a DD someday .....i question DA's common sense.

I'm glad you explained the eyes .....i think they are key to exceptionalism of this piece. HAD you not ..... i would have been stuck here for days trying to figure it out ......so i thank you for my freedom.

I would love to know how you softened her face so well. And if i'm not mistaken ... you made a grapevine wreath and photographed that with the model...then painted the thorns on ?

20 out of 10 possible stars fella.... You busted the scale...

Awesome manip dude. Convincing...I know you said over IM that you were looking for that surreal plastic look...which I see on here now...I still think its a little over the top...but not bad....its a very nice final piece though...After seeing the original you did wonders with it for sure.

I REALLY like the eyes!
