...When they planned to make a PPG anime, I had something different in mind. Unlike the Japanese version which was geared toward girls, the original American show appealed to audiences of all ages. It had action, drama, etc., while still being under the label as a cartoon....And here are the Gangreen Gang! I had a lot of fun drawing these guys on the bus!
There was some trouble in working their design but I got it done and I do like it nonetheless. My favourite of course is Grubber. 
EDIT:...I changed Snake's eyes from white to pink and added some peach fuzz to Ace's upper lip.

How do you make the pictures without a background?

...Sorry for the late reply. I had to look back through my notes on that. 
...For starters, I use photoshop when working. I open the scanned image onto PS, then set multiple layers: one for line art, one for colours and one for the background. The layers are going to be transparent while you work on them. Once you are done with what you do on each layer, save it, and then save it as a .png. It will save the image as is, and not automatically add a solid colour background like the .jpeg format.
...I hope this explanation helps a bit. If you're more of a visual learner, perhaps I can post up a step by step tutorial. If needed, that is.
