Description
A long due picture of a beauitful Pegasus, Ampere. I've really stepped out of my comfort zone with this picture, trying a black animal (screw black fur, it's so difficult to work with) and a bit with water, which I've been wanting to try for a long time. But I've been dying with muses to do a picture of this inspiring girl and I've finally done it!

First impressions: Wow! Really good angle there, and it got the point across.
Details: Taking a closer look at the wings, they look sort of... sketchy, I guess. They're still great, but try to shade them a little rather than just sketch on lines. I absolutely LOVE the water, I can really 'feel' the setting. The horse's head and neck are done perfectly, really realistic. However, the neck just looks a little, well, short to me. It may just be me or the angle, but it just looks a little short for a horse.
Things I like: The water is my favourite. I love it! The bubbles and the trails too. Amazing. You did the horse's face perfectly too, especially the nostril, I really like that! I can just imagine that scene so well, you've captured it wonderfully.
Things that could improve: The neck, as I said above. Also, the body seems a little strange. I think it's just the angle, but maybe work on bodies a bit more e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

(Smile)"/> Also, where's its back-left (right facing this way) hoof? Final thing, the tail. If it's supposed to be short, that's fine, it just looks strangely short to me.
I hope this helped! ^w^

Thank you for your critique, I can see where your points are coming from. The problem I had with the wings was picture balance, some parts of the horse were incredibly detailed and some parts weren't. I actually had a lot more planned for the wings but there was already so much fine detail with the rest of the horse, and the water ripples to boot, I struggled trying to find a proper balance without overwhelming the picture. What I tried to do was focus most of the detail towards the center of the horse and leave the tips of the wings with less detail and use them more for flavor rather than a point of focus for the viewer. Where I feel I messed up the most was the water ripples, I tried using smaller ripples at first but I felt like that drew too much attention from the face for something that wasn't entirely necessary. So then I tried larger ripples which seemed to balance the picture out more for me but made the wings look less attractive. I decided on sacrificing the wings for details that I thought would be more impacting for the picture, such as the bubbles coming from her nose, the fine water ripples, the feathers falling out of her hair, the water, and the light reflecting off her tail. I just couldn't let that part of the picture go to waste for the wings, but I can try other things and practice more on picture balance to see if I can make details like that more acceptable without ruining the true point of focus.
The body probably is a little strange, I don't always use references and there wasn't a pose reference for this picture. It's the reason I don't do manipulations, most of the work to make a horse manipulation look good (imo) is finding the right pose for the right flow of movement to fit the picture. For example of I wanted to do a picture of this using picture of horses or manips for a reference, the front legs would have been stretched to full extension as the horse braces for landing. I didn't want Ampere to be bracing for a landing, I wanted her to relax and fall into the abyss as though she were in a dream. But you won't find very many horses in that kind of pose. So the chest and neck are probably not accurate. I thought I nailed it, but it'll just take more practice.
The wings I knew could have done better, but I didn't see that the neck and chest weren't accurate length. Probably got too lost in the feeling of the picture and threw anatomy to the breeze. I know I made the wings uncomfortably small than I usually like, but at least I gave the viewer a good shock before you see the flaws.
Thank you for your time.
