Description
A little painting practice with Iril, one of my Dragon Age characters.

As a young orphan growing up with his sister in the streets of an elven alienage, Iril manifested as a mage. He and his sister Fie hid from the city's Templars so that they wouldn't be separated if Iril were sent to the Circle, but Iril began to suffer from terrible dreams that neither of the children understood. One night when Iril was only a boy of seven or eight, he went to sleep and in the morning woke up... different. He had been made Tranquil in his sleep, his spiritual self slain in his dreams, cut away from his still-living body.

Fie never understood quite what happened to him that night. Her loving, excitable little brother became as docile as a lamb, his personality wiped clean, and without any knowledge of mages or the Circle the little girl only knew she'd lost a brother and gained a living, breathing doll- a poor trade-off, as it turned out. He still needed to eat, still needed a warm place to sleep and clothes on his back, but in the alienage you had to be canny to survive, and Iril no longer seemed to be able to understand other people. He didn't know how to tell when someone was about to hit or kick him, didn't know how to pick a good target to beg from or pickpocket. Fie had to care for him and cope as best she could. They grew up taking any jobs they could find, sticking together as closely as possible and forever avoiding the Chantry and the Templars lest they still want to steal Iril away.

Fie grew up lovely, and Iril surprisingly strong for a young elven man; as young adults, with few other options, Iril took hard-labor jobs, and Fie began working as a prostitute. After long, hard years of hard work and lean living, Fie eventually had what she considered to be the good fortune to be hired on as a "courtesan" at a reputable whorehouse. There she arranged for Iril to be hired as a servant, washing dishes and changing sheets- although time has proven him to be an excellent bouncer for the establishment as well, unable to be bribed or dissuaded once given a task.
