Description
1/4-inch aluminum plate with copper accent.4.75" X 3.75" (approx.)
Copper plate is in a recessed area cut out on a milling machine with a rotary table and then cemented with epoxy.
Not my first choice, but different attempts to solder the two together were fruitless (as I imagined they would be, but I had to try.)

Thank you. I've spent the last few years trying to simplify the forms of my work, to do more with less as it were. I try to make the lines I keep be the most aesthetically pleasing. This has been most difficult in my abstract pieces where I never imagined that the placement and shape of curves would be such a big deal in something that was non-representational, but the eye wants what the eye wants and so I scrap roughly 90% of my designs right off the bat before I ever take saw to metal. The design of this piece was inspired in part by the classical designs of the knight pieces of chess sets, but the trot-like pose of the head was inspired by vague recollections of the little figurine from The Black Stallion, which I remember being a bold and proud-looking representation of a nearly mythical beast. I did not directly reference pictures of the sculpture, just my memory of it since I didn't want it to unnecessarily alter the vision in my head.

Your lines are indeed wonderful. The mane looks a bit like the crest of a Roman helmet, and the curves on the top and the bottom make the eye run up and down the piece several times. In short, this is perfection of simplicity.

That's a very interesting observation, since I believe the crest on a Roman helmet is supposed to emulate the mane of a horse, sort of a circle of reference. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks. I drew it while bored at work a few years ago where the design sat and was almost lost (I found it on the floor of my garage near a sawdust pile).
